i'm kinda bummed that it's in 1.66:1 though... IMDb lists 1.85:1 as the aspect ratio, but i really don't know which is OAR..

I really hope it's not 1.66 because it's just marginally widescreen. I saw Clockwork Orange which was 1.66 and you could barely tell that it was widescreen.

A Clockwork Orange (the original release) was in the ratio of 1.47:1 - that was all supervised and approved by Kubrick.
The new remastered edition has fairly thicker correct 1.66:1 bars.

My Criterion Laserdisc is 1.66:1.
BTW, does the DVD have the Japanese language track? And the literal English to Japanes to English translation of a couple of scenes? Just curious if it's worthy of replacing my Laser.

Aside from the film itself, I thought the best extras are the Lego knights takes on the "Camelot" number and the "Quest for the HOLY GRAIL Locations" documentary, which scores by being both hilarious and informative!

weird issue with subtitles
Has anyone had a problem with random subtitles coming up on the movie, even though I have my sony dvd player "subtitles:OFF"?? Seems to be one every so often (maybe 5-10 minutes or so), but just that one line. Weird. Just trying to figure out if I have a defective copy.

Yeah, it's happened to me on my Phillips/Magnavox box. Here's a thread on the topic.
