Just got Cape Fear '91 SE.

Just picked this one up in UK , looks good, 2 disc, deleted scenes, making off, Matte paintings (?), opening credits analysis, trailer etc. Looks excellent. Still at work, so will watch it tonight.

Where did I get it? Dont ask, but dont worry, it was legit. But it does cost more than ordering on line. Why dont I wait and get it cheaper? Funny you should ask.

I ordered my first disc on line last week, the Carrie SE. Got it yesterday - though I consider myself lucky. I cam home from work, and our postman had left it on my doorstep, in full view of the street ( ok, I live in a basement, so there is some cover, but it could still be seen from the pavement).

This is the sort of nonsense I have to put up with with parcel deliveries, ( I get all my CD's mail order as well) and I have lost one completely in the past. Compensation? Forget it. Complain? Well, yes, you can....but you normally just get an apology. Waste of time.

Will try and post something tomorrow, though will probably not get through the actual movie tonight. Will probably watch the extra's, though.

As promised.....

Not had time to watch the full movie, but did check it out briefly, sound an picture look excellent, 5.1 sound, anomorphic, with a THX optimode set up option. The score really comes across powerfully.

Watched the extra's, just a brief rundown :

Making of doc - 79 mins. Very informative, interviews ( some circa '99, some new) with most of the cast, Scorsese, Schoonmaker, Bernstein, Wesley Strick and more. Mostly talking heads stuff, not a lot of behind the scenes or archive footage, but very analytical. The acting process is paid particular attention to, and even De Niro seems more forthcoming on this subject than usual. They go through the movie chronologically, almost scene by scene. Excellent stuff. I was particularly pleased to see an explanation of De Niro's strange ramblings during his drowning scene. Homage is also paid to the original movie. Not chaptered, though.

Deleted scenes - 9 mins worth. Mostly stuff fleshing out the family relationships and the tension between them, some with Lange and Lewis, showing more of the Mother/Daughter relationship, a couple of scenes between Nolte and Lange also, shwoing more of the mistrust and tension between them also, and also a couple of dialogue scenes from De Niro, one explaining what happened to his ex wife. Interesting, though sound and picture quality on some of them is a little poor.

2 short ( 1-2 mins) behind the scenes pieces on the parade sequence and the houseboat sequence. Not bad, and the houseboat scene at least shows some of the humour that existed on set, but too short.

Photo montage - broken down into the different looks of De Niro's character, intercut with clips and set to Hermann's score. Also a cast photo's sectiion and shots of Scorcese directing on set. Well put together, and better than average for this type of feature. Also has an option to play all of these.

Matte paintings - a very brief but welcome look at the matte paintings used in the movie

Opening credits - an unusual feature this, basically a tribute to Saul Bass, showing his title sequences for Vertigo, Psycho, Spartacus and Casino. I had thought this would have been a look at the making of the opening titles, but this is covered in the doc anyway ( did you know the opening titles contain some unused footage from the movie Seconds?)

As well as this there is a trailer, comprehensive cast and crew info, production notes and DVD rom material ( don't have a PC at home, so not sure what this is).

Downers? Horribly static and silent menu's - would have expected something better from a 2 disc SE.
Hermann's score is overused on the special features - that 4 note familiar horn motif may be excellent, but when you hear it 10 times over, it gets a little grating.

And no commentary. Would have really been the icing on the cake, though Scorcese has a lot to say during the doc, so this does take the edge if it a little.

Discs look ok, with the main artwork printed on them.

Don't ask me what type of case, I'm not good on this one, though it looks like a variation on the Castaway case to me.

Overall an excellent disc, and highly recommended to fans of the movie.
