editing a post where you've quoted another post

I'm not sure if any of you realize this or not, but if you make a post where you've quoted someone (as in clicking the quote button to make the post), and then edit your own post, whatever you wrote will disappear, and all that's left is what was quoted.
this just happened to me twice... maybe i messed up somewhere, but i think this little tweak may explain why sometimes we see posts that look like someone just quoted someone without writing anything else.
... or maybe you all know this already.

Edit: Ummm... nothing disappeared.
