I have a friend who's going to be in Paris next week and has offered to snag me a few French dvds to play on my new Region 2 capable player. I'm most interested in the dvds of two old French films, FANTOMAS and EL DORADO, but the online prices seem to go from moderately low to very, very high. Anyone know of any places to get dvds in Paris that might be somewhat cheaper than FNAC or Virgin? I'm hoping that's not as good as it gets.

The only place that would have it cheaper than FNAC would be a duty-free store at CDG airport. BTW, this is the old Fantomas you're talking about, not the one with Marais and de Funes, right? The latter is not avalable yet.

...ahh... ummm... both Louis Feuillade's Fantomas and Marcel L'Herbier's
El Dorado are from the silent movie era: 1913 and 1921, respectively... French intertitles only... numbered, limited editions... two of the most beautifully produced DVD releases in my 'collection'...
