I gotta disagree. I think the show this year has been the best since season 5. Season 6 was nothing special, but this season has been great. The episode where Ross plays the bagpipes had me laughing so hard....

I think the last good season was the one after the London trip and Monica and Chandler were hiding their relationship.

What did I tell ya? Within like 2 minutes of this episode begining
Of course, it's a pretty obvious joke, so I'm sure I'm not the only one who saw this coming.

Is it just me or is the show getting more ribald lately? Wonder if they're desperate because of Survivor 2. Between the lesbian kiss and the previous episode's circumcision/fake penises storyline, I'm wondering. Heck it's a great show for me and all who can handle it but it's also on at 8 p.m. and it seems like they're pushing the envelope kind of hard for a show that many kids are watching. I know I wouldn't let my kids under 10 watch the "Joey's fake dick" episode!

Do you WORK for the Citizens for Morality brigade or something? There was nothing 'ribald' about those shows. I mean, shows in Europe and in Canada have nudity, curse words and the like and noone complains over there. I'm sorry, but I just find it hard to believe that shows should be censored so that kids don't see stuff they're not supposed to. It's the parents job to take care of the kids, not the networks. Why must the rest of us be objected to bland shows because of this?[/B]

Re: Ribald Friends
Sierra Disc - I can see what you're saying, and I hardly think it merits the responses you got.
But I don't really think it's gotten more ribald lately since they've pushed the envelope many times before. One episode that jumps immediately to mind is the one where Joey and Chandler got free porn on TV, which had many porn-centered jokes and even showed some actual porn flick footage - nothing explicit, but it was real. This particular episode has been on as early as 7pm in my area.
Many, many of the other eps also deal with sex. I know b/c I'm a huge fan of the show. But I also see that it could be a concern to parents, which then points to Huzefa's point that parents need to take the responsibility to supervise their kids. Just b/c it's on before their bedtime doesn't mean it's OK for the kiddies.

Wow, jump all over a guy for no good reason.
I think Friends is getting racier not because of the Survivor factor, but because the show has run out of steam. They've used up all of their plot points by now. Let's face it, what's going to get you to watch? "A character moves to a new apartment... again" or "Lesbian kissing"?

So huzefa, I'm curious if you even READ my post, because if you did I think you'd pretty much see I AGREE with you. You jump on your little high horse and start coming up with all these neat phrases that I didn't say. Did I USE the word "censorship"? No, but you kindly jammed it into my mouth, didn't you? I actually said it was a great episode and found it funny but that I simply wouldn't let my kids under 10 watch it. THAT, in case you don't have kids, is defined as parents DOING their jobs. There was NO call for NBC to ban the show or the government to implant v-chips in our heads, and I wouldn't support any such thing. Parents ought to serve as guides for their kids, and not just plop them down and let them watch somewhat adult programming like this without discussing it with them or waiting until they're old enough to handle it. The government should have no role in it whatsoever. So see, we agree.
Next time, kindly refrain from abridging my OWN right to free speech by mangling and reworking what I said and screaming "censorship" at me. What you did to my own words by twisting them to suit your own spin on things is a kind of censorship in and of itself in case you didn't notice.
By censorship, I mean the trimming of the shows. I thought it was pretty obvious but guess not. Either way, I'm not about to blow up NBC Plaza, so u can breathe easy, but all I'm saying is, it's high time parents stopped blaming TV for their kids mishaps and took a better look at themselves. There are adults out there, who enjoy seeing violence and sex on TV, 'cuz it livens it up a bit. It's okay for adults because they know how to deal with it. If parents did their job better, or at all in some cases, then we wouldn't have this talk about 'ribald shows'. ....

p.s.: I've pretty much said everything I want to say, no more for me.

Please. So you tell me directly after my quote why you ask if I'm a member of the moral majority? It's shrill, poorly-thought-out "debaters" like you that give anti-censorship folks a bad name.
