Whose GILBERG (Wrestling Question)

Duane Gill, former HS football coach. During SS '98, there was a tournament to determine the new WWF champ and Vince promised a big surprise for it. Most folks thought possibly that HBK might be coming back, but no, to our horror, it was Duane Gill, who was Mankind's first round opponent. Later on, Duane caught on with the JOB Squad as Gillberg, which eventually got him the Light-Heavyweight belt on a TV taping. It was a one riff joke that they carried out for a few weeks, including him coming out to "pyro" (which was the other JOB members holding sparklers up for him), mildly amusing, but that's about it.

Well all that should answer your question. Other facts include about a year and a half ago he was the longest reigning Lightweight Champ after defeating Christian. One rumor was he was supposed to win the Gimmick Battle Royal but problems with Goldberg arose and the Iron Sheik won instead when in all honestly Iron Sheik was scheduled to win in the first place to save the Sheik from injury from going over the top rope.

Wasn't he the longest reigning because he took the belt to another promotion, and then threw it away(ala Scott Hall and the tv belt) on tv, I wanna say WCW but I don't think it was them.

No, the WWF just forgot about the title and he "defended" it at various house shows and in the indys. It wasn't until the Radicals (especially Malenko) showed up that they decided to reuse the belt and had Gillberg show up one night and lose the belt.

Gillllll berg.. Gilllll berg... Gillllll berg
I actually liked laughing at his arse.
just think of goldberg, a lot smaller, very punny, pretty much WWF's version of Goldberg in the mocking sens.
WCW had "The Federation" as there push boy.
Gillberg had the Goldberg pyro, did all goldberg's gimmicks (arms in the air yelling) and sure as hell made me laugh. ahhh i remember his arse going into the royal rumble only to get tossed out second.

Personally I thought it was sad and it took TV time away from other wrestlers who could have been pushed. It was funny for a small bit, but they should have killed it earlier, it was just a cheap shot at WCW that wasn't needed.
