Re: Funimation Virtual Convention July 3-4

Thanks for the heads up!

It's weird, I would've spent July 4 at Anime Expo but now that I can't go I'm not sure I'd spend that day just streaming panels from my home. Maybe I'll do it with my daughter.

Re: Funimation Virtual Convention July 3-4

That’s interesting. It’s been few years since I’ve been to an anime con, and my favorite part was going to the panels, but it was always a PITA to line up, have it fill up, etc,

This looks like a trend. Not sure how well these virtual conventions will be pulled off.

Eh, it's just a bunch of streams, really. Anime Expo is doing the same thing. Registered and this (and the other events) will be our convention replacement (too bad there's no merch table, maybe I'll peruse the Good Smile store).

If the Funimation Con attracts many viewers I could see it become a yearly event but not on the same weekend as Anime Expo

EDIT: updated thread title to reflect all virtual anime conventions

It started a month ago. It started with Anime Lockdown and it multiplied fast. They had no convention affiliation and was able to get 2 industry distributors and 2 voice actors (Kyle Hebert and Veronica Taylor). This one ran very well (primarily on Twitch; YouTube gave trouble later on). Known problem that could pop are connection/lagging issues.

Recap of what happened for may.

May 1 - 3 | Anime Lockdown
- Discotek Media, Right Stuf

May 9 - 10 | Virtual Pop Expo
- Crunchyroll

May 14 - 17 | Anime Central Online
- Right Stuf

May 21 - 24 | MomoConline
- Crunchyroll
- Right Stuf

May 30 - 31 | Cloud Matsuri (UK)
- Anime Limited (UK)
- Crunchyroll

***

And there is also Comic-Con@Home | July 23 - 26 https://www.comic-con.org/cci/press. There probably won't be much anime/manga content. So far VIZ will be presenting.

Re: Virtual Anime Conventions

https://www.dragoncon.org/updates

Will you do a virtual event instead?

Funny you should ask because that’s our exact plan! We will be taking Dragon Con 2020 virtual this Labor Day weekend and give our fans the FREE opportunity to enjoy new content, as well as reminisce while catching up on some of the old favorites. We fully acknowledge that a virtual event won’t come close to offering the magic that an in person Dragon Con brings, but it is our hope that it will allow our community to take some time to step off the planet that is currently experiencing an unprecedented global pandemic for four or five days to be among people who get you. People who are just like you. People who truly accept you. And hey, if you wanna cosplay in front of your computer…that’s cool, we will be doing the same (and running some awesome contests for you to show off your work!)

We will of course be hosting some events for fans to showcase their amazing creativity and interact in some exciting ways. Please stay tuned for details as they unfold in the upcoming weeks.
