Re: Japan Crate & Doki Doki Crate
I guess it depends on where you live. If there's a Japanese market like a Mitsuwa near you, I'd think they have enough of a selection that the Japan Crate wouldn't make sense, at least it doesn't to me. I mean even if you absolutely love something that you get, you won't ever get it again, right?
I dunno, I feel like I'm just going to get garbage/leftovers/stuff I don't want from these blind crates. It'd be cool for a one-time gift for a fan, though. |
Re: Japan Crate & Doki Doki Crate
If anyone ordered this month's Doki Doki crate, they're offering refunds. Apparently there were some problems with bootleg and poor quality items. If you watch the unboxing videos on YouTube, a lot of people are really upset.
http://japancrate.wpengine.com/?p=767 I ordered the Premium Japan Crate. It should arrive today. They had some problems with that one too. Some of the items got held up in shipping from Japan, so the boxes were sent out a week late. And their shipment of DIY Candy Kits were damaged in transit, so they had to substitute with something else. But they're including bonus items to make up for the problems. And they've sent out numerous emails keeping customers updated on the situation. |
Re: Japan Crate & Doki Doki Crate
I got a Japan Crate this month -- it was some free promo in conjunction with Crunchyroll, so it was free for me, I didn't pay for it. I believe it would have cost $25 otherwise... Very underwhelmed by it though. I mean it has some cool candy that I wouldn't have otherwise got to try, but in no universe is it $25 worth of stuff. Maybe $15 if I'm being really generous, and even that is high for what it included. The one was a bag of potato chips... which were basically normal every day potato chips you can get anywhere, but in a japanese bag. :P

Re: Japan Crate & Doki Doki Crate
I got my Japan Crate yesterday. It was the $30 Premium Crate (I paid $20 with the coupon code).
Inside the box was 4 snacks, 8 candies and a Lemon soda. There was also a bonus "My Mustache Is Vintage" pen, and a squishy bun. It comes with a nice booklet (in English) which details each item and has other Japan info. The snacks were Pocky, Pretz, and potato chips. These were ok, but nothing special. I can get Pocky at my local Walmart. And I agree with Jeraden about the potato chips. They tasted like normal Lays chips. I would have been more impressed if the snacks were unique flavors. I guess some crates got Plum-flavored chips. That would have been nice. The candies were a good variety of types and flavors. Two bags of gummies, a few chews, some chocolates, and a pack of gum. My favorite were the Yam White Chocolates. I handed them out, and everyone loved them. If I can find them, I'm definitely going to buy more. I priced the items at Candysan, and it came out to around $15 or so. Each item was in the $0.75 - $1.25 range. If you factor in shipping, the same package would have cost about $25 at Candysan (Japan Crate has free shipping). Overall, I enjoyed the Japan Crate. It was fun to open it up and be surprised by everything. It was a nice mix of candy and snacks. Everything tasted good and there was nothing gross. If I'd put together my own crate at Candysan, I could have saved some money. And there's a few things I wouldn't have chosen (like the potato chips and Pocky). On the other hand, I never would have tried the Yam White Chocolates or Calpis Gummies which were both great. I might give it another month. I'll end up paying full price ($30). But I'm curious to see what I'll get. |

The Mini had calpis gummies, chocolate Pocky, Hello Kitty pretzels, a Ju-C tube and the potato chips. The Original box added the orange gummies, Fit's gum, Pokemon candy and a bag of yam white chocolates. |

Did you get the Original Crate ($25) or the Mini Crate ($12)? I though the CR promo was for the mini crate.
