I didn't think for a second that both the limited editions would sell out before they even came out. Anime collectors be intense!

Yeah, considering the Amazon limited edition was 10,000 sets, that's really impressive. I'm glad I locked in my pre-order when I did. Should be shipping any day now!

Same here. Even more glad that I locked it at $59.99. I may just turn around and Ebay the thing cause honestly I just wanted, and thought I was buying, the regular set.

Apparently people have been selling their pre-orders on ebay for $200-400.

That's crazy. But I'll be keeping my Funimation set until the new and improved 8doubleK editions come out and render my copies worthless...like so many other cool special editions in the past.

I'm OK with waiting for a Funimation sale on the standard version, but now I kinda wish I'd gotten the limited one to subsidize that purchase.

Can you let us know how it looks? My only fear (and why I didn't pre-order) is that it won't/can't look much better than an up-scaled dvd.

I thought we knew from the bluray trailer released in October that we were getting a proper remaster:

And the nerds at you know where are talking about the screen caps and how FUNimation may have skimped on the QC and whatnot. Fucking OCD'ers.

Well, for tons of anime fans this is considered the best anime series ever made. This isn't just some run of the mill anime made from any given year with poor plotlines and characters and execution. It's considered something of a fine masterpiece to many, so why not be bothered if the PQ isn't as top notch as what it could be?

Funimation could have easily dropped the DVD discs from several of the released editions and added a few extra Blu-ray discs, upped the cost $20 or so if manufacturing was considered too high, and fans would have paid and no one would even be having such discussions.

Re: Cowboy Bebop TV series on Blu-ray

I still think they should have added the movie as well. Any reason why they didn't?

Rights issues. Sony owned them and licensed to Image. That's pretty much the only reason why.

The PQ IS top notch - but the OCD-ers are bitching and moaning about silly screen caps that are NEVER indicative of the final product. That was my point.

How was the BD for that one?

KNowing very little about how they made the show, tech aspect specifically, I'm sure it looks fine. Some Anime just ain't going to look perfectly clean.

Re: Cowboy Bebop TV series on Blu-ray

The Image Blu-ray of the movie looks good, but it unfortunately only has 2.0 audio when there should be a 5.1 track.

The TV series should look great since it was remastered from 35 mm film. It's only necessary to upscale the cuts that were created with CG. The majority was traditional cel animation.

Screenshots can help with some of the PQ determinations as a lot of the issues with DNR, edge enhancement, color timing, macroblocking, shimmering, banding, and other video issues can be found this way. Yet I do agree that too much of an emphasis is placed. PQ can look better (or worse) in motion than it does in screenshots.

I don't know about the Funimation set yet. Unfortunately, I don't have it yet. But I did have the UK release and found it to be unsatisfactory. I own the JP set and the PQ is much nicer.

When did you place your order? I ordered 8/11, and I thought 69.99 was the cheapest it had been. If it dropped after that though, I'm not complaining.
