What anime have you watched or/are currently watching?

It's as simple as the thread title states. It can be any anime from DVD, Blu-ray, streaming, television, theater, and so forth. It can be something new, old, and anything in between.

re: What anime have you watched or/are currently watching?

I will start off with streaming series that I recently finished.
  • Beelzebub: The 60-episode series finally wrapped up recently. Outside a couple arcs, I actually enjoyed the series more than I thought I would.
  • Black★Rock Shooter: I wasn't sure what to expect from this short series. Overall I just though it was okay to so-so.
  • Detective Opera Milky Holmes 2: The first season was decent. The second season is pretty more of the same.
  • Guilty Crown: There was a bit of hype when the series started last year. At times it felt like it dragged on. Overall I still liked series.
  • High School DxD: Even though the series isn't anything deep, I actually enjoyed the series.
  • LAGRANGE -The Flower of Rin-ne-: Another series that I wasn't sure what to expect. The first season just didn't totally grab me. The second season won't start until the summer.
  • Nisemonogatari: Nowhere as good as Bakemonogatari (of which really needs to be licensed here). It's definitely interesting enough of a series.

Currently watching Another on Crunchyroll. Great show. P.A. Works never fails to impress me.

Within the last 365 days I went through Oreimo, Baccano, Madoka Magica, Fate/Zero, Canaan and Angel Beats. Tried to watch Barefoot Gen and quit after about 30 seconds of the blatant historical inaccuracies.

Of those, the only one I pirated was Madoka Magica. The "IT'S BEEN LICENSED AND IT'S COMING HERE!" announcement came when I had one episode left to go.

For me, it's definitely one of the better series this season. I'm definitely curious how the series will end.

re: What anime have you watched or/are currently watching?

Currently watching:

Fairy Tail - My favorite anime series right now. Also reading the manga.
One Piece - Only about 8 episode done so far. 500+ still to go.
Seitokai Yakuindomo - There's some funny moments, but it could be better.

I watched these in the past couple months:

A-Channel - Not bad, but nothing memorable.
Astarotte's Toy - I wasn't expecting much, but it turned out to be really good.
B Gata H Kei - Kinda disappointing. I was expecting it to be much better.
Best Student Council - It was enjoyable in a goofy way.
Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai - Amusing but forgettable.
Cat Planet Cuties - Disappointed. Didn't like it much.
Chu-Bra - Average and forgettable.
Fortune Arterial - Forgettable.
Hyakko - One of my favorite anime shows.
MM - Not that good. I hoped it would be better.
Madoka Magica - Amazing. I'd buy the Blu-ray if it wasn't $120.
Mayo Chiki - It was pretty good. Not bad, but not great.
Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu - I liked it. Above average but not great.
Oreimo - Great show. One of my favorites from last year.
Shugo Chara - Gave up after 8 episodes. Not my type of show.
Squid Girl - Very funny. Really enjoyed this show.
Usagi Drop - Excellent series. Will probably stick with me a long time.
YuruYuri - Love this show. Watched it twice. Looking forward to Season 2.

Of these, my favorites were Fairy Tail, Madoka Magica, Usagi Drop, YuruYuri, Squid Girl, Astarotte's Toy, Hyakko and Oreimo.

re: What anime have you watched or/are currently watching?

I'm currently going through Fairy Tale, the blu releases, though I'm still in the first 10 episodes. My anime watching is very, very slow. Star Driver is next up, though I still have to finish up Code Geass R2 and Gundam OO season 2.

Most shocking to me is that I have no other open orders for anime. I have a ton for manga, but this must be the first time in over a decade where I didn't have some kind of disc on order at RightStuf. I've been tempted by Madoka Magica, but I'm still contemplating the investment. I have a gigantic backlog, so it's not like I won't have anything to watch.

I'll pick up Tiger and Bunny whenever Viz decides what they want to do with it. And Gundam Unicorn and Hellsing whenever they put out new volumes.

Also, this may be the only time I say this, but if you like Usagi Drop/Bunny Drop be happy with the anime and don't go read the manga.

Oh man. Right after I finished the series I went to check if there was the possibility of a 2nd season. I read the manga summary at Wikipedia. Felt like my soul had been raped. I'm just gonna try to erase that from my memory.

I love that film I watched it like a month ago.

re: What anime have you watched or/are currently watching?

  • Another - A rather facinating series for me. Every once in a while it's nice to have series with dark/mysterious, bloody elements. It would be interesting to see this series on Blu-ray (via Sentai Filmworks).
  • BRAVE10 - It just feel like it has been done before and it just doesn't really stand out for me.
  • Chihayafuru - IMO, a very underrate series. It's sad to see the series end. I hope that a North American distributor will be able to license this sometime in the future.
  • Familiar of Zero F (Season 4) - The series really has gone downhill after the first season or so. With that said, the ending was somewhat satisfactory for me.
  • LASTEXILE - Fam, The Silver Wing- - I had low expectations for this series. I guess that expectation was still too high. Disjointed storyline with characters that don't seem to fit their roles. It was nowhere close to the original Last Exile series.
  • Natsume Yujin-cho Shi (Season 4) - The previous three seasons were great, this season was no different. I hope season 5 somehow materializes in the future. Now I'm looking forward to see how NIS America handles this license.

I thought it was decent. IMO, it was not as dirty as that FUNi trailer made it out to be.

Best Student Council - It was enjoyable in a goofy way.
An underrated series. It has been years since I watched this.

Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai - Amusing but forgettable.
Some people likes this more so than others. As for me, it's feels more like an average series.

Chu-Bra - Average and forgettable.
I guess I liked it a bit better. I'm not surprised that this haven't been licensed in N. America yet.

Fortune Arterial - Forgettable.
I knew what to expect with this type of anime. It had its moment, but definitely could have been better.

Hyakko - One of my favorite anime shows.
A pleasant surprise for me. I hope this gets licensed in the future.

Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu - I liked it. Above average but not great.
First season was good. Second season...not as much.

Oreimo - Great show. One of my favorites from last year.
Re-watched the series late last year with the Aniplex of America release. While it's not a series for everyone, I liked it.

Squid Girl - Very funny. Really enjoyed this show.
Same here. I liked both seasons.

Usagi Drop - Excellent series. Will probably stick with me a long time.
Another great CR simulcast series in recent memories. I hope someone licenses this.

YuruYuri - Love this show. Watched it twice. Looking forward to Season 2.
I guess I didn't like it as much you here. It's definitely fun to watch though.

Right now I'm halfway through Listen to Me, Girls, I’m Your Father!. I was expecting a comedy, but so far it's more of a drama. Kinda weird watching this right after viewing Usagi Drop. Similar storyline but totally different.

Right after I watched the series, I went straight to Amazon to buy it. But it was already OOS and people were asking $200+. :(

It seems like half the time I want to buy an Anime series, it's either out of print (Oreimo), not released (Hyakko), or way overpriced (Madoka Magica). No wonder the anime industry is in a slump.

FWIW, I pre-ordered it on the day the listing went active.

And ANN is reporting that the 2nd season is green-lit.

  • Ano Natsu de Matteru - The series grew on me as it progressed. You really get the Please Teacher feel here. I hope there will be a second season made in the future.
  • Inu x Boku Secret Service - While there are some entertaining characters in the series, I just didn't click with this series.
  • Listen to Me, Girls, I’m Your Father! - A very pleasant surprise for me. It was another series that grew on me as the series progressed.
  • The Prince of Tennis II - I only have seen a few episodes of the original series here and there. This slate of episodes just didn't interest me as much. With 13 episodes, it just feel incomplete.
  • Persona 4 - Not bad. I'm sure others more familiar with the background could enjoy the series more.
  • Phi Brain - Kami no Puzzle (Season 1) - While it's nothing too deep, I actually enjoyed watching the first season. I'm looking forward to the 2nd season.
  • Symphogear - I liked the series a bit more than I thought I would even though it was somewhat predictable.

Just finished Gurren Lagann. It was great. Pretty much the anti-Evangellion. It's not really necessary but I think one's appreciation of it greatly increases if you've already sat through a healthy serving of giant robot/mecha anime.

I started out disappointed because it wasn't a comedy like I was expecting. And as far as storyline goes, it wasn't as good as Usagi Drop. But in the end, it turned out to be quite charming.

A bit too early to recommend at this junction, but I was mention a couple that stood out to me thus far.
  • Kuroko's Basketball - Only 1 episode, but it has a much better feel than something like The Knight in the Area. It's worth checking out if like sports genre anime.
  • Polar Bear Cafe - What an adorable series 1 episode in. You get a polar bear, a penguin, and a panda.
  • Space Brothers - I like the first two episodes so far. The series appears to have potential to be good.
  • Upotte!! - First episode was pretty terrible. I don't think too many people are going like this series.

I didn't read the manga. I guess the take for the series after 1 episode is not to take it too seriously for the lack of plot. For me it's just feel a bit lacking. The jokes just didn't do it for me (it probably didn't help that I don't get the various gun references).

Dusk Maiden of Amnesia has just been added to my to-watch list.

re: What anime have you watched or/are currently watching?

In the last two weeks I've watched:
  • Neon Genesis Evangelion:This was the first time watching it all the way through. I saw episodes here and there when it was on TV. I really enjoyed watching it. I wish they would release all the updated movies quicker.
  • Princess Jellyfish: I wish they had more series like this. I really enjoyed the story and I wish they would come out with more things like this. I also really enjoyed all the Three Kingdoms talk but that's just because I'm a big fan of the history. The commentary was also great to listen too. Monica Rial is very fun to listen too.
  • Elfen Lied: I watched this back in college and decided to watch it again. Still as gruesome as ever but still a good watch for me.
  • Ōkami-san & Her Seven Companions: Felt to short for me. I wished the story had been a little longer. I hope the come out with a second season. Only real problem I had was the Narrator talking over everyone so much. Two good commentaries on this one. Both had me laughing.
  • ef: a tale of memories: I didn't know what I was getting into but this ended up being a very interesting love story.
I just started ef: a tale of melodies and it's not as good as memories so far but I'm hoping it will pickup.

Just started watching this series. I'm almost through Season 1. It's a really excellent show. Reminds me of Usagi Drop in the way that it's very gentle and sweet. If you're looking for a nice heartwarming show, this is perfect.

re: What anime have you watched or/are currently watching?

Home video:
  • Battle Angel / Dragon Half / Miyuki-chan in Wonderland / Plastic Little / Princess Minerva / Puni Puni Poemy / Queen Emeraldas - I watched a bunch of ADV OVAs within the last couple weeks. Not much stood out for me. It's interesting to see early CLAMP work with Miyuki-chan in Wonderland. Queen Emeralds is not bad though too short.
  • ChäoS;HEAd (BD) - It was about what I expected. It took a little to figure out what's going on.
  • Katanagatari (BD) - Great visual and artwork with this series. It's very dialogue driven which may or may not be for everyone.
  • Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok - Decent series. The mythology feel/aspect drew me in. Outside of that not much stood out.
  • Peacemaker - Another fairly decent series. The series didn't pick up for me until much later on.
  • Princess Jellyfish (BD) - A fantastic series. It feels like a series that doesn't get talked very much.
Streaming:
  • OZMA - It's always good to see more work from Leiji Matsumoto. In this case, the OVA series just feel a bit short. Certain parts feel a bit rushed and unexplained.
  • The Future Diary - One of the more intriguing series that I have seen recently. The second half doesn't feel quite as strong as first half. Overall I still enjoyed watching this series.

To add on to this...Kids on the Slope has been terrific so far. It's definitely a very solid license pick-up for Sentai Filmworks. Mysterious Girlfriend X is just rather bizarre/interesting. I would never expected drool to be a part of any anime series.

I just finished watching the first season of Rosario + Vampire. Fun harem show, though the basic concept seemed to be running out of steam by the end of the first season. The formula for each episode was getting a little too predictable near the conclusion. I wonder if the formula becomes too repetitive in the second season?

Having seen that series all the way through at least three times, I can almost say Najica Blitz Tactics is essentially Agent Aika but with REAL storyline. (It should be noted both were produced by Studio Fantasia in Japan.)

I'm currently watching the following:

Natsuiro Kiseki (It's a very intriguing "slice of life" anime of four middle-school girls right at the start of summer school vacation in Japan.)
Lupin the Third: Mine Fujiko to Iu Onna (If you're a fan of Monkey Punch's original manga, you'll really love this series--it's like that manga has come to life.)
Bodacious Space Pirates (I've enjoyed it so far, and it would not surprise me if a second season is ordered.)
Queen's Blade: Rebellion (Fanservice overkill, but I do like the character designs.)
