Re: What anime have you watched or/are currently watching?

I'm still an episode behind on GATE but so far it's been all about the JDF's military dominance, which is not at all what I was expecting. I know it was a callback to Apocalypse Now, but modern soldiers gleefully gunning down medieval-type soldiers is getting kinda old/sad. I realize the origin of the series was basically a very right-wing author writing an online story, and it's been toned way down from that in every incarnation, but geez.

Re: What anime have you watched or/are currently watching?

I've owned the boxset of the original 2000 release of Bubblegum Crisis for probably 10 years now and never got around to watching. This past weekend I watched the first episode and was highly impressed.

The BladeRunner references were pretty spot on, and the jpop music was actually enjoyable.

Plus, the transfer has held up very well for a 15 year old DVD.

Re: What anime have you watched or/are currently watching?

I've been meaning to get back into watching some anime shows. The last one I had watched and really enjoyed was Kids on the Slope. I watched a few episodes of Attack on Titan and didn't care for it and watched the first episode and a half of Kill La Kill and turned it off because it's gross. I just marathoned through Terror in Resonance over the last couple days and that was fantastic. I'll probably try Ping Pong next.

OK, I finished the Naruto series (during his young time, not Shippuden). The reason I watch it because I was wondering what's big deal with that series as it's popular. I thought it's just fairly okay - after the Sasuke issue, rest of episodes are pretty garbage - lot of pointless filler storyline.

Now, I'm working on Shippuden version - so, let's see...

I just skip the fillers. Especially in Shippuuden where they just jump out of the middle of a battle into a whole different filler arc, etc.

What sucks is when they mix like 30 seconds of canon into a filler episode. From like 275-426 (current), it's been jumping in and out of filler so much during this single arc that more than half is filler.

List of filler episodes
057-071 -- 12 Ninja Guardians/Sora arc
090-112 -- Three-Tails arc
144-151 -- Six-Tails arc
170-171 -- "The Lost Tower" movie promotion
176-196 -- History of Konoha arc (all one-shot stories)
223-242 -- Sea travel arc (all one-shot stories)
257-260 -- Naruto&Sasuke flashbacks
271 ------- "Road to Ninja" movie promotion
279-281 -- War arc fillers
284-289 -- War arc fillers
290-295 -- Power arc
303-320 -- War arc fillers
311 ------- Adaption of Kishimoto's "Road to Ninja" chapters
327 ------- Nine-Tails Flashbacks
347-348 -- Extended Obito/Akatsuki flashbacks
349-361 -- Kakashi ANBU arc
376-377 -- Mecha Naruto (Storm Revolution promo)
389-390 -- "Hyuga Sisters special (The Last movie promo)
394-413 -- Chuunin Exam arc
416 ------- Team Minato Flashback
422-423 -- Boruto movie promotion
427-??? -- Infinite Tsukuyomi/Dream fillers

List of manga scenes mixed with filler episodes

I see... Ugh. I will have to see it through. One thing that interested in first season of Shippuden is about Akatsuki group after all 9 tails monsters for the power. It kind of made me wanted to see what happened.

You mean the the tailed-beasts. Only the 9-tailed Fox has nine-tails. The other eight have one to 8 tails depending on them. Gaara's tailed-beast for example was the one-tailed beast. You'll learn all about them and their actual names later. I won't spoil their names.

Just read the manga to get the story, then hope that your favorite Naruto fights are well animated in the anime and seek those out (because as much as I like Kishimoto, I have no idea what's going on in some of those action scenes).

I'm only 3 episodes into Death Note and it's already the greatest anime in the history of all anime.

I finally watched the rest of the third season of "Familiar of Zero", then I watched "Familiar of Zero f". I started watching the third season two months ago but with everything going on at the time I lost interest with watching my new animes.

It keeps that up for about 18 episodes before getting into silly territory.

So yeah Ping Pong was incredible. Easily one of the best anime I've seen.

Up to ep 11 and still going strong. We'll see whether it turns into fuckery soon.

Re: What anime have you watched or/are currently watching?

There is an obvious turning point in the plot where you can kinda see possible editorial interference caused the manga creators to extend the plot instead of end it where they may have wanted. This is hinted at in their next series, Bakuman, which is about a fledgling manga artist and writer team.

The three live-action Death Note films end on a different note and apparently the creators of the series prefer that ending. Now there is a live-action drama series airing in Japan of Death Note as well.

I've had the complete series of Tekkaman Blade for like two years, and am thinking of finally going through it starting tonight.

Re: What anime have you watched or/are currently watching?

I just finished watching the last episode of Ranma 1/2. This and Sailor Moon are the only anime that aired for many seasons with over 100 episodes that I bought.

Anyone else buying the blu-rays of Ranma 1/2 or Sailor Moon?

Re: What anime have you watched or/are currently watching?

I didn't buy the Sailor Moon Blu-rays because they're absolute shit-tier quality. There is ghosting, over-saturation, halos, missing lines, and washed out detail from improper filtering. Sadly the dvd release by Viz is done from the same badly filtered source.

After hearing, seeing, and reading about the qualities of releases for the series; any die-hard fan would opt to buy and import the Italian DVDs that came out years ago.

The only reason anyone should want to purchase the new sets is for the new dub; but I reckon older fans don't care much about a redub as they prefer what they're use to and newer fans on the other hand for the SM franchise would likely be waiting for SM Crystal.

Just wondering if you watched Sailor moon from an actual Blu-ray yourself, also the Italian DVDs?

I watched it on my 4K TV also upgraded to 4K and the quality looks really good for an early 90s anime, I didn't notice any obvious badly filtered parts. I noticed on some other animes that was badly filtered, they mostly fixed themselves on my new TV, in a way you could say everyone would have different experiences from the equipment they use.

Re: What anime have you watched or/are currently watching?

Yes I watched it from the actual blu-ray which I had bought and ended up getting my money back on.

These are comparisons I posted months back on another community forum I frequent:

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison.php?id=99039

Look how much clearer the dvd is. Look at the ghost leg on the blu-ray.
The text is NOT readable on BD but is on the DVD.

then....

Comparison of BD vs R2 dvd upscaled to 1080p:
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison.php?id=98804
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison.php?id=98564

Look how much is missing on the blu-ray. Look at the ghost face.
How is having a giant ghost eye plastered over someones face, okay?

Every single scene has major detail loss. Everything is washed away and flattened. Lines have been completely erased.

If you pay money for a product, then you shouldn't have to have your 'equipment' attempt to fix/repair issues like this. There was no reason for the BD to be that bad and something that bad doesn't deserve my money. I had bought the first set, but I got my money back on it after complaining. Blu-ray is suppose to be able to show more detail, be more crisp, have more vivid colors. Yet it failed on all regards. If a dvd is vastly superior, then something is wrong.

I play BDs on my PS3 and my PC which are connected to a 40" 1080p HDTV.

Re: What anime have you watched or/are currently watching?

I can see a little of the wash out of details on the house and maybe over-saturation but I am not seeing any ghosting.

I am going to try playing it on my PS3 since I bought a $300 Blu-ray player for better resolution and quality of picture.
Edit: even playing it on my PS3 I'm not getting any ghosting. I am more then happy of the quality of my Sailor Moon on Blu-ray.

Now you're kind of making me worry about the Ranma sets (which I haven't gotten around to viewing yet)...

if you compared Ranma 1/2 to Sailor Moon that does have some miner defects, Ranma 1/2 is perfect.
