Bandai LE Blu-rays - Are they that Limited/RARE?

I just noticed that most Bandai Released Blu-ray Limited Editions in United States vanished immediately and go up in price in the collector's market?

Are they that limited?

Akira (First Press)

Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade

Freedom

Yukikaze

If you meant Bandai as Bandai Visual / Honneamise, yes for the most part. The most desired BD releases would be Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade and Yukikaze. Freedom is slowly getting more expensive. These two releases can fetch anywhere up to $200 apiece. So for these two, they are definitely rare.

Gunbuster vs. Diebuster: Aim for the Top! The Gattai Movie is also in the same situation as Freedom. There isn't much for Royal Space Force: Wings of Honneamise right now. SOS! Tokyo Metro Explorers: The Next just doesn't really attract too many people and the pricing have been about the same. The only thing in-print possibly Akira (the first press edition for this is rare as well).

Thanks for the clarification WTK, YES its Bandai Visual / Honneamise

I think the reason why Royal Space Force: Wings of Honneamise isnt getting any would be the failed attempt packaging the box with "White" DVD amaray case.

I don't think that was the factor. It was basically a mirror release to Japan. I would say they just simply overproduced the sets. In the case for Jin-Roh and Yukikaze, there weren't very many copies to go around.

Is Bandai Visual / Honneamise directly coming / manufactured from Japan and retailed here?

Do Bandai Visual / Honneamise still producing Blurays or switched to Bandai only?

Bandai Visual USA pretty much no longer exists. That leaves Bandai Visual Japan. They definitely still producing BDs. One ongoing example would be Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn. Bandai Entertainment is a subsidiary of Bandai Visual Japan.

The Freedom set is OOP, now? I haven't even watched my copy yet.

BD Round-Up
  • [*]
  • [*]
  • [*]
  • Gunbuster vs. Diebuster: Aim for the Top! The Gattai Movie - Slowly becoming only available in auction sites though still below the MSRP of $99.98.
  • SOS! Tokyo Metro Explorers: The Next - Not really considered as LE. Least known of the bunch. It's considered as OOP, but can still be found below the MSRP of $64.98.
  • Royal Space Force: Wings of Honneamise - Even though it's OOP, it still can be found easily at an affordable pricing at auction sites and TRSI.
  • Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn - US only getting the standard singles. It's definitely in-print though only available with select online retailers.

Where is Gundam Unicorn v.2 exclusive to? v.1 was on Amazon, but I don't see a v.2 sold directly by Amazon...

Also, did they overproduce the individual Gunbuster and Diebuster Blus?

Vol.1 was exclusive to Amazon.com for a few month window after street date. It was later made available elsewhere. Vol.2 is exclusive to Bandai Entertainment The Store (and also their counterpart Amazon.com Marketplace storefront). Other anime retailers do stock Vol.2 (TRSI, RACS,...), but the turnaround time may vary. Vol.3 is not solicited yet for U.S., but it will be out in 3/18/11.

Is this Bandai? or distributed by Bandai? The set by the way looks good - and will this be rare soon?

It's manufactured by Aniplex (Japan) and distributed in the U.S. by Aniplex of America. This is essentially a Japanese import (with one addition of translated booklet). Bandai Ent. really had very little to do with this release (other than selling it via its online store; closing at end of this month). And this release at the moment is not considered as rare.
