Félicitations! Sailor Moon Retour en France! Great news out of France today from both a French manga news site, as well as a release! Moonies in France, mark your calendars for July 2012 – the renewal editions of Sailor Moon and Codename: Sailor V will be published by Pika Édition (as we predicted back in July). It looks like their release schedule will mimic what we have seen in North America and other countries around the world, with the two titles being published simultaneously. In about a week or so one of our staff members will contact Pika Édition’s distribution arm in Quebec to double check if the releases will be hitting Québécois Moonies (which they likely will, but we just want to make sure). |

Chris, any chance that "Sailor Stars," the fifth TV season, will ever get shown or released in the U.S.?

Moon Chase editor Sailordees found new Sailor Moon belts while shopping in store! These sealtbelt style belts are made by Buckle-Down and are on sale at Hot Topic for $26 each. We were emailed by a representative at Buckle-Down back in September to inquire about whom to contact for licensing Sailor Moon merchandise in North America. We pointed him in the right direction and now we can see the results! |
Re: So is it true about Sailor Moon!?
Forgive a non anime guy for probably asking a stupid question, but I clicked on the thread because I happened to watch this show in the 90s...what is wrong with the dub that was used then that a re-dub is needed? Did they mess them up somehow?
I have fond memories of what little I remember. Girlfriend at the time was obsessed with it. |
Re: So is it true about Sailor Moon!?
The dub might have been done only on a cut-down version, so if they're re-doing the whole thing there would be gaps. Also, there's the whole "they're really close cousins not lesbian lovers, no siree bob" aspect of the original dub, maybe they're wanting to restore that?
Also, dubs often become the property of the specific sub-license company that did them, and if a new distributor gains the rights, then they can't always get the rights to those older dubs. It actually comes up kinda often in both the anime and kaiju film (giant monster movie) fandoms. Fans grow up listening to a certain dub and become attached to it, and will hunt down copies on VHS, LD, whatever to have that certain dub. |

I have fond memories of what little I remember. Girlfriend at the time was obsessed with it. On tv, Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus were cousins instead of lovers. Also Sailor Moon's real name is "Usagi" not "Serena" everyone elses real names were also americanized. You can read more about the english adaptations here. |
Re: So is it true about Sailor Moon!?
Thanks guys. The lesbian thing I get why they censored it....but reading the wiki some of the other things they bothered to do seem baffling. Flipping frames so cars appear to be driving on the correct side of the road, etc...wth? Lot of effort it seems for a pretty worthless change. A lot of the Americanization stuff seems so unnecessary but I guess it was a different time then too.

Re: So is it true about Sailor Moon!?
Which is better to own, the english version DVD collection or the original Japanese Uncut DVD collection?
Me personally I originally watched it in the US and much prefer the english one. How 'bout you guys? |
Re: So is it true about Sailor Moon!?
I liked her called Serena instead Usagi. Hearing that makes me think of the saumri rabbit on Ninja Turtles. I know Usagi means rabbit but I still always think of turtles.

Re: So is it true about Sailor Moon!?
I like Serena too.
@Ash I found a Sailor Moon uncut dvd featuring, I believe the first half of the first season. Is it rare? I bought it cause it was cheap but I don't think I'll keep it because I really prefer the english translation. |

Toonami Returns To Adult Swim! Time To Spaz Out! We hope Sailor Moon's attached to that line-up! Those were some fabulous uniforms, ha! After fans refused to shut up after a snippet-teasing April Fool's Prank, Cartoon Network realized they needed to bring the block of anime known as Toonami back. Hosted by Space Ghost Coast to Coast's Moltar and Toonami frontman T.O.M, series like Outlaw Star, Sailor Moon, and Dragon Ball Z had a home for loyal fans. Needless to say, violent acts of anime deprivation was at its lowest. Beginning May 26, fans can tune into CN's Adult Swim programming to see Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, and Fullmetal Alchemist along with other action favorites and new additions. WooHoo! But Sailor Moon better use her moon crystal power to get on that list! We'll just feel so wretched if it doesn't come back!! |

Re: So is it true about Sailor Moon!?
Holy shit! :D:):D:)
Just found out the news (yes, I'm slow)... un-freaking-real! Way too many details still up in the air, but the most important thing is that, the same way "Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon" re-charged our depleted "Sailor Moon" fandom batteries back in the early 2000's, this new anime is going to bring the franchise into the current century and not only re-charge us, old-timers, but bring in a new generation of fans into the fold. Even though it's going to be odd to see the characters using iPads, cellphones, Blu-rays, social media, Wii's and the internet in their daily life (technology scares me; electronic devices might turn into youmas! :p) I am literally dancing in my underwear little dances of joy at the thought next year there wil be an anime I am truly, deeply, madly in love with that I can follow along with everybody else in the world. We're back, baby! ;) |
