Panasonic Releases 34-Minute English-Subtitled Anime The Land of Nomo For its Pavilion at Osaka World Expo

Panasonic Group opened a website on Friday to announce it has produced an original animation for the Osaka World Expo 2025 at the Panasonic Group Pavilion. The company is also streaming the full 34-minute anime on YouTube with English subtitles.

Panasonic Visuals Co., Ltd. and monofilmo Inc. produced the anime, based on an original story by Hiroaki Kubo. The anime stars Kana Ichinose as Sora, Megumi Han as Daichi, and Aoi Yūki as Rococo. Sakurako Ōhara performs the song "Yume wa Tsubasa" (Dreams are Wings). Yukinojo Mori wrote the lyrics and Takayuki Hattori composed the song.

Panasonic has also opened an English website for The Land of Nomo project, and describes the project:

In “The Land of NOMO”, the world mirrors the way you think and feel—new adventures await every visitor. When you find the glowing butterfly, you might also discover something special hidden deep within your heart.

The 2025 World Expo will take place from April 13 to October 13, 2025 on the man-made Yumeshima island in Osaka Bay. This will be the second time Osaka has hosted a World Expo after Expo '70, 55 years earlier. (A remnant of that expo is the famous Tower of the Sun that appeared in 20th Century Boys and other stories.)

The expo will also show a new 3D CG anime short titled "Neo Atom Tanjō" (The Birth of Neo Astro Boy), based on Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy and Black Jack manga and anime. The expo will also feature "Gundam Next Future Pavilion," the Gundam-themed area. Shōji Kawamori is collaborating with Yōko Kanno for his new hybrid virtual reality short film "499-Byō Watashi no Gattai" ("499 Seconds: My Gattai" or 499 Seconds: My Combination), which will play at the "Live Earth Journey" pavilion at the expo.

The event's mascot Myaku Myaku inspired a series of anime shorts that aired from March 3 through March 6.

More than 50 years since the release of Riyoko Ikeda’s masterpiece, The Rose of Versailles, its anime film adaptation is set to stream exclusively on Netflix from April 30. This tale of romances and fate unfolds during the turbulent French Revolution vividly bringing to life the world of Oscar — a beautiful woman raised as a boy by a distinguished general — and an ensemble of unforgettable characters. Set in the prosperous late 18th century, they embrace their destinies with grace and beauty, despite being swept along by the times.

In an era of restrictions, Oscar defies the societal limits of status and gender, choosing her own path and bravely leaping into the French Revolution. Her courageous and beautiful way of life garnered empathy and adoration from many young girls.

Gaining fervent support from readers throughout its run, Riyoko Ikeda’s manga serialized in Weekly Margaret (published by Shueisha) since 1972, has sold over 20 million copies and caused a wide-ranging social phenomenon in Japan, adapted to the stage by the Takarazuka Revue theater company and as an anime series. It’s widely regarded as a landmark in girls' manga.

A talented creative team brought this film to life, directed by Ai Yoshimura (Ao Haru Ride, Cheer Boys!!), with a screenplay by Tomoko Komparu (Uta no Prince-sama, From Me to You: Kimi ni Todoke) and character designs by Mariko Oka (First Love Monster, Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan). Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack on Titan) produced the music, which he composed together with KOHTA YAMAMOTO (Ooku: The Inner Chambers). Animation studio MAPPA (Jujutsu Kaisen, In This Corner of the World) produced the film. With its stunning music and captivating performances, this beloved story continues to enchant audiences.

The singer Ayaka brings her powerful voice to the theme song, "Versailles," which she wrote for the film. Hitomi Kuroki, who became a huge fan of The Rose of Versailles as a cast member of the Takarazuka Revue, lends her voice as the film’s narrator.

IndieWire can exclusively reveal that “Future Boy Conan” will begin streaming this April on RetroCrush, a subscription service dedicated to classic anime. The first episode of the series will premiere on Friday, April 18, followed by weekly releases of the remaining 25 episodes. Additionally, episodes of the series will air on the free, ad-supported, streaming television (FAST) version of RetroCrush on April 20, 22, and 27, as part of Hayao Miyazaki-themed marathons.
