Free! -Eternal Summer- “For the Future” Premium Edition AND OVA News!
Posted by Godswill on 07/03/2015 at 7:15pm

We’ve had a wave of recent announcements and events for the swimming anime phenomenon Free! -Eternal Summer-, but we’re not done yet! Today, fresh from our AnimeExpo panel, we’re revealing two new big pieces of news—a Free! ES Premium Edition AND news about the long-awaited OVA episode!

If you’re a hardcore Free! fan looking to add a really special splash to your collection, we’re unveiling today the Free! -Eternal Summer- “For the Future” Premium Edition, full of totally exclusive special additions to show some extra love for our favorite swimboys.

The Premium Edition will include not only the Free! -Eternal Summer- Limited Edition that we unveiled earlier this month (featuring that gorgeous rigid chipboard box with water gloss effect!) but also these collectibles you can’t get anywhere else:
  • A full-color art book, including many gorgeous pieces exclusive only to the original Japanese releases
  • Seven glossy art cards also using exclusive, highly detailed art from the covers of the Japanese releases—you’ll definitely want to frame these
  • A color sports towel, so you can take the boys to the pool or beach!
  • An Iwatobi and a Samezuka decal to show off your school pride
  • And finally, everything housed in a handsome collector’s box to hold all your Free! collectibles
These items are exclusive to this release and won’t be remade once the Premium Edition’s (one and only!) print run sells out, so pre-order now before they’re all gone for good! We’ll be revealing a preview of these items soon.

PLUS! Customers who pre-order the Premium Edition from FUNimation.com will automatically be entered to win a gorgeously sculpted 1/8 scale figure of everyone’s favorite water-lover, Haruka Nanase, from Alter! These highly detailed figures are sold out in Japan and pretty rare to find, so order by September 29 to get a shot.

We’ve also been receiving a lot of questions about the Free! -Eternal Summer- OVA, a special unaired full episode featuring the Iwatobi and Samezuka boys in an intense, dramatic, no-holds-barred (and totally hilarious) water gun battle. We’re excited to finally announce that we do have the rights to this OVA, and it will be released in 2016.

We know that some fans hoped the OVA would be included in the Eternal Summer release. Given the Japanese release dates, we’ve decided to release the OVA separately in order to be able to release the season on home video this year. Since we’ve seen such a huge outpouring of passion and excitement for this title, we definitely don’t want to make you guys wait til 2016 for the entire release.

Details on the OVA are coming soon. Customers who pre-order the Premium Edition from FUNimation.com by September 29 will also receive an offer to get an additional discount on eventual pre-orders of the OVA, so don’t delay!
16:01:30 <bay|AX|FUNi> and we got one more..
16:01:36 <bay|AX|FUNi> Venus Project Climax
16:01:46 <bay|AX|FUNi> this show is a blend of animation and live action

Has Discotek released any updates on these titles? I don't recall seeing a release date for Street Fighter II except "2015," but somewhere I saw Night Warriors is suppose to come out 7/21. Even though Night Warriors supposedly is coming out in 2 weeks, I haven't seen pre-orders for it anywhere.

That's what Previews had noted. It's not solicited and it won't be released on July 21st. I think later in 2015 is still very possible. No updates officially from Discotek since the initial announcement.

Gotcha. I just get paranoid when small video distributors give out vague release dates on titles. It makes me think we may not get them.

"LEGEND OF THE GALACTIC HEROES"

HOUSTON, JULY 9, 2015 – There are big releases and huge releases, but Sentai Filmworks goes above and beyond to make the impossible possible with the acquisition of one of anime’s most renowned and sought after sagas: the mega-epic LEGEND OF THE GALACTIC HEROES! Originally launched as an OVA series, the initial set would continue for an incredible 110 episodes before the sprawling storyline, which documents interstellar war on a galactic scale and from multiple viewpoints, began to spin off a dizzying array of sequels, side stories and remakes.

Mirroring the story’s central thread of warriors learning by trial of fire, LEGEND OF THE GALACTIC HEROES has served as the proving grounds for so many up and coming animation legends that it would require pages to list them all. However, few stars shine as brightly as those of the steady hands of the commanders who launched the series: legendary director Noboru Ishiguru, who created the transforming mecha genre with his legendary Super Dimension Fortress Macross, gave birth to the OVA with Megazone 23, and guided the voyages of Space Battleship Yamato and many other classics, and animation production house Kitty, whose other gifts to anime include such classics as Ranma ½, Ninja Scroll (TV), Urusei Yatsura, Yawara! and Maison Ikkoku.

LEGEND OF THE GALACTIC HEROES will be available through select digital outlets with a home video release to follow.

"TO LOVE RU DARKNESS 2"

HOUSTON, July 9, 2015 – The science fiction and sexual shenanigans continue at Sentai Filmworks with the announcement of the latest installment in the hit To Love Ru series: To Love Ru Darkness 2, as part of its Summer 2015 anime season lineup. Based once again on the manga sensation by Saki Hasemi and Kentaro Yabuki, the 12 episode series continues to explore the completely bizarre, side-splittingly hilarious repercussions that occur when beings from other worlds (but with conveniently compatible body types) get hitched in order to promote interplanetary relations.

As one would expect, To Love Ru Darkness 2 reunites many of the vets from the To Love Ru franchise. Atsushi Otsuki (Argvolen, Kanokon: The Girl Who Cried Fox), director of To Love Ru Darkness, is back at the helm, while character designer Yuichi Oka (Overdrive, Argevollen) and music director Takeshi Watanabe (This Ugly Yet Beautiful World, Strawberry Marshmellow, Guardian Ninja Mamoru) also encore in their respective duties. Overall animation production is once again being handled by XEBEC (Broken Blade, Martian Successor Nadesico, Zombie Loan).

"USHIO AND TORA"

HOUSTON, JULY 9, 2015Sentai Filmworks is proud to announce its latest acquisition, Ushio and Tora, as part of its Summer 2015 anime season lineup. Based on the landmark manga by Kazuhiro Fujita, the series originally debuted in anime form as a 10 episode OVA in the early 1990’s. This new adaptation brings an all-star production team and a vastly expanded scope to the story of Ushio. This brash young middle school student discovers (the hard way) that his father’s stories of a demon trapped by a magic spear in his family’s Shinto temple are all too true. Ushio finds himself haunted by the demon after accidentally freeing the tiger-like beast. However, while Tora’s initial goal is to eat his young adversary, their relationship soon twists into one of the most convoluted takes on the “buddy” story genre to date.

The task of helming the 39 episode series is in the hands of master director Satoshi Nishimura (Trigun, Fighting Spirit), while the equally acclaimed Toshiki Inoue (Ranma ½, Iron Man, Devil May Cry) is in charge of series composition. Character design is the responsibility of Tomoko Mori (Garo, Juden-chan), while overall animation production will be performed under the aegis of MAPPA (Kids On The Slope, Rage of Bahamut: Genesis, Terror in Resonance, Hajime no Ippo Rising) and the debuting Studio VOLN.

Ushio and Tora is scheduled for a July 2015 release and will soon be available through select digital outlets with a home video release to follow.

And since there has been such speculation about this project, we will confirm that one of our December titles is CAPTAIN HARLOCK: SPACE PIRATE (2013), which will be our first-ever 3-disc blu-ray set. We are presenting 3-D and 2-D versions of both the Japanese and International Cuts, along with a separate disc comprised of copious extras - quite the package for anime fans! We recognize that this is unusual territory for us, but we were offered the opportunity because of our relationship with Toei Animation - (TT co-founder Brian Jamieson was Toei's marketing consultant for the worldwide release of the film) - and consequently we have been allowed to release the most comprehensive package for this movie on blu-ray anywhere in the world. We are proud to be associated with it, and hope there's at least a few of you that will take pleasure in some truly dazzling visuals - James Cameron, who has enthusiastically endorsed the project, considers Aramaki to be one of the greatest anime directors out there -- hop on board and try it -- you never know, you might like it!

“DRAMATICAL MURDER”

HOUSTON, JULY 16, 2015 – The secrets of Aoba’s island home are as deep as the ocean itself, and finding the answers to the mysteries within will only bring more questions in Sentai Filmworks' latest acquisition, DRAMAtical Murder. This psychological action series is directed by Kazuya Miura, with series composition by Kabura Fuchii and Touko Machida (Chaika –The Coffin Princess-, Wake Up, Girls!), music by Yuuki Hayashi (Diabolik Lovers, Haikyu!!) and animation production by NAZ (Hamatora).

Aoba has a part-time job at the junk shop "Mediocrity," and lives with his grandmother Tae on the island of Midorijima, which is located to the southwest of the Japanese island chain. While hand-to-hand combat turf wars called "Ribstiez" have spread across the island, an online game "Rhyme," which is set in a virtual world has become quite popular. Aoba spends his time participating in neither, until one day, he is suddenly -- and forcibly -- dragged into a Rhyme battle...

DRAMAtical Murder will be available soon through select digital outlets with a home video release to follow.

Speed Racer on Blu-ray is great news along with original language but will the dubbed version be available too? I grew up with the English version and would prefer having both language if possible.

Edit - am I safe to assume that MachGoGoGo and the edited version "Speed Racer" are two different releases now and will Funimation releases them both on Blu-ray?

Your guess is as good as any. It's wait and see on if the release will be separate. Since this could be an evergreen title, I wouldn't rule the possibility of a re-dub.
