Re: Unreleased Licensed U.S. Anime Properties

This "subtitled only" thing is a new concept to me, that must be a very, very small collectors' market.

The market must've tanked very, very badly pretty quickly.
- Bandai Visual JP is streaming Wolf's Rain on Hulu for free.
- Witch Hunter Robin is being shopped by SUNRISE (for distribution).
- Evangelion TV: won't be available until all for Rebuild films are released.
- Fushigi Yugi: licensed and released by Media Blasters on DVD.
- Escaflowne: One of the best sellers for Bandai Ent. It's shopped by SUNRISE (for distribution).
- Outlaw Star: It's shopped by SUNRISE (for distribution).
- Gurren Lagann: license rescued and released by Aniplex of America.
- s-CRY-ed: It's shopped by SUNRISE (for distribution)
- Big O: status not 100% clear
- Planetes: status not 100% clear
- Kenshin TV: Aniplex (JP) holds international rights
- Sailor Moon: status not 100% clear
- Scrapped Princess: status not 100% clear
Whatever became of Manga Entertainment? The End of Evangelion movie seems to be OOP along with much of their other stuff.
The US branch pretty much only handles streaming/digital content nowadays. They are slowly letting their anime releases go OOP.

I would buy if dubbed on Blu-ray, Kurokami: The Animation and maybe a few others.

So, I Can’t Play H
- SUBTITLED ONLY but on DVD & BD
I am so happy Sentai is going to start releasing sub-only blu-rays I don't even care its sub-only.

It's a shame that two of last year's best shows aren't getting dubbed. It'll limit their appeal to US audiences. And these are both really fun shows. But at least they're getting a US release.

Where the hell is Hyouka? Why hasn't anyone picked that up yet? Such a great show. It's a shame it's getting ignored in the US.

Whatever happened to Tatami Galaxy? I make it a point to buy all the noitaminA shows I can get my hands on. How is that something as bad as Guilty Crown can get a release, but Tatami Galaxy can't?

Nothing happened. FUNimation holds the streaming rights. They have no intention to release on home video.

It was released in the UK (defunct Beez) and Australia (Siren Visual). So legit English version is available provided you're okay with price and the DVD region coding (UK = R2 and AU = R4).

Re: Unreleased Licensed U.S. Anime Properties

Thank you for the prompt response. That is disappointing to hear. As for the region free dvd player that is something I have been meaning to look into for some time.

Do you have any insight as to why they don't intend to release it on home video? Or any insight as to their selection process for which titles get a home video release? I apologize if this is not a question you can field or inappropriate for the thread, but you seem well informed, (some sort of anime-god perhaps?).

I would also like to thank you for all of your hard work - actively posting anime news for these forums. As someone who struggles mightily to keep up with all the latest info, your efforts make it possible for someone like me to stay apprised of the happenings in one of my favorite hobbies. So whether you are a god, an angel, or just some well-to-do human, I thank you.

There is no way to know for sure. One possibility could be that the streaming numbers/results weren't great. Another could be this isn't a title that FUNimation wants to dub. Or maybe they realized that among the different factors, the series doesn't fit with what they release (as in...it won't sell for them). It could really be anything.

And FYI, these type of questions are perfectly fine in this thread. If you feel more comfortable creating a thread, you can certainly do that. It's pretty wide open in this forum with no strict rules. Just no links to illegal sites (whatever they maybe) and anything that's not considered family unfriendly (site restriction).

Any chance the second season of Squid Girl hits Blu-ray? Media Blasters' various problems swallowed up any chance they would release it like the first season.

MB retains the rights to S1. I'm just not sure if anyone would be interested in S2 if MB has S1 for a lengthy period of time.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SENTAI FILMWORKS LICENSES
“GATCHAMAN CROWDS”

HOUSTON, September 5, 2013 — To fight a hidden enemy requires an invisible army in Sentai Filmworks’ newest acquisition: GATCHAMAN CROWDS! This 12 episode series derived from the classic GATCHAMAN TV series originally produced by Tatsunoko Production is directed by Kenji Nakamura (tsuritama), features character designs by Kinako, G-Suit designs by Kenji Andou and Koji Nakakita, who also does mechanical designs, and series composition by Toshiya Ono.

For most of the residents of Tachikawa city, life seems to be perfectly normal. That’s how it seems, but the truth, known only by a tiny select handful, is that this is a city at war. Every day, as the citizens go about their business, they are under attack by alien criminals and mysterious monsters seeking to conquer, enslave and destroy. But to combat these threats, a covert council has secretly selected certain individuals to serve as protectors. Wearing special suits that amplify latent powers hitherto unsuspected, they blend into the crowds and shadows, waiting until the call is given to fight again. They could be anyone: your neighbor; your best friend’s mom; even high school students like Sugane Tachibana and recent college grad Joe Hibiki. And needless to say, schoolgirl artist Hajime Ichinose is probably the last person anyone would ever suspect of being a soldier entrusted with defending mankind. But she is, even if as the latest recruit she still has an awful lot of learning to do. Hiding like ninjas, powered by super-science, they are humanity’s first and greatest line of defense. They are the GATCHAMAN!

GATCHAMAN CROWDS will be available soon through select digital outlets with a home video release to follow in 2014.
