HOUSTON, APRIL 7, 2017 – Sentai Filmworks takes the plunge into dragon country with its newest acquisition from NHK Enterprises, Inc.: The Dragon Dentist. Produced by Studio khara, led by Evangelion director Hideaki Anno, the two-episode TV special is based on the seven-minute ONA (original net animation) of the same name that premiered and delighted at the 2014 Animator Expo showcase.
Even mighty dragons can get cavities, and Nonoko has been newly assigned to protect the teeth of the guardian dragon of her country. One day, she discovers an enemy soldier resurrected from the inside of a dragon’s tooth, a phenomenon which legend says foretells disaster. In a land ravaged by war, what does fate have in store for the dragon dentist Nonoko and her new “apprentice”?
The Dragon Dentist will soon be available on select digital outlets with a home video release to follow.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SANTA MONICA, CA (April 14, 2017) – At the Nitroplus panel at Sakura Con in Seattle, Washington today, Aniplex of America announced the acquisition of Katsugeki TOUKEN RANBU for their summer 2017 line up. Based on the immensely popular game “Touken Ranbu ONLINE” developed by DMM Games/Nitroplus, the series will be produced by the much loved ufotable, known for their groundbreaking work on Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works and God Eater.
Aniplex of America also showed a trailer for the series, which they plan to start streaming in July 2017. Since its debut in 2015, the online game spawned a rabid fan movement within Japan and has been described as nothing short of a social phenomenon thanks to their very popular characters. As a result, the series promises a high quality production with stunning visuals and captivating storylines revolving around these individuals.
About Katsugeki TOUKEN RANBU:
The year is 1863 as the tumultuous samurai era is coming to an end, Japan is split between the pro-shogunate and anti-shogunate factions. The fate of the world is threatened as an army of historical revisionists are sent from the future to alter the course of history. In order to bring these forces down and protect the real history, two sword warriors, spirits who are swords brought to life by Saniwa (sage), rush to Edo. The polite and thoughtful Horikawa Kunihiro and the short tempered yet skillful Izuminokami Kanesada, who served the same master, confront the invading army along with a lively gang of other warriors including Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki, Yagen Toushirou, Tombokiri, and Tsurumaru Kuninaga.
As the fate of history lies in these hero’s hands, what meets the blade is yet to be uncovered...
With beautifully illustrated scenes and action packed sequences, Katsugeki TOUKEN RANBU explores the complex personalities, stories, and relationships of these characters as each episode unfolds.

Re: Unreleased Licensed U.S. Anime Properties
I've got the complete Dancougar series on VHS. The distributor was Software Sculptors. This purchase will sure make some shelf space available.
I only have a couple of volumes of Captain Harlock Endless Orbit SSX on VHS fan-sub. This series will be a welcome addition to my collection as well. Midnight Eye Goku is a great two-part OAV. I only have it on VHS fan-sub also. Time for an upgrade.
Thanks for the heads-up, WTK.

SHOUT! FACTORY FILMS AND FUNIMATION FILMS BRING HIGHLY-ANTICIPATED ANIMATED FEATURE“IN THIS CORNER OF THE WORLD” TO U.S. CINEMAS ON AUGUST 11, 2017
Los Angeles, Calif. – May 18, 2017 – Shout! Factory, a multi-platform media company, has tapped Funimation® Films as its theatrical partner to jointly launch acclaimed animated feature IN THIS CORNER OF THE WORLD across U.S. cinemas on Friday, August 11, 2017. Based on the Japanese award-winning manga by Fumiyo Kouno, the film is written and directed by Sunao Katabuchi. Produced by GENCO and Japanese animation studio MAPPA, IN THIS CORNER OF THE WORLD, bolstered by emotionally resonant storytelling and exquisite hand-drawn animation, is an empowering coming-of-age tale set against the backdrop of WWII and captures the resilience and triumph of the human spirit. This highly-anticipated movie recently won the coveted Animation of the Year award at this year’s 40th Japan Academy Prize and has been selected to premiere in competition at the LA Film Festival in June. The announcement was made today by Melissa Boag, Shout’s Senior Vice President of Kids & Family Entertainment at Shout! Factory and Mike DuBoise Executive Vice President and COO of Funimation.
“In This Corner of the World is an incredibly exquisite, artful and socially relevant film that will impact everyone who sees it. We’re really proud in presenting this remarkable, hand-drawn animated film to North American movie audience,” said Melissa Boag, Shout’s Senior Vice President of Kids & Family Entertainment. “Funimation Films has a great track record in launching prominent international animated movies across cinemas in North America. We couldn’t find a more committed and perfect company to join us on the theatrical launch of In This Corner of the World.”
We’re thrilled to be joining together with Shout Factory for the North American release of the award-winning animated film In This Corner of the World,” said Mike DuBoise, Executive Vice President and COO of Funimation. “It is a stunning work of traditional (hand drawn) animation which has helped shine a bright light of Japanese animation in 2017 – transcending the genre and creating a whole new audience for anime unlike ever before. We look forward to bringing In This Corner of the World to theaters very soon.”
The award-winning story of IN THIS CORNER OF THE WORLD follows a young lady named Suzu Urano, who in 1944 moves to the small town of Kure in Hiroshima to live with her husband’s family. Suzu’s life is thrown into chaos when her town is bombed during World War II. Her perseverance and courage underpin this heart-warming and inspirational tale of the everyday challenges faced by the Japanese in the midst of a violent, war-torn country. This beautiful yet poignant tale shows that even in the face of adversity and loss, people can come together and rebuild their lives.
Film director Sunao Katabuchi began his career working closely with Hayao Miyazaki before directing his own animated films, including Katabuchi’s acclaimed animated features Mai Mai Miracle and Princess Arete.
