What's the new Evangelion movie exactly? A new series?

I haven't seen the first movie myself. It's supposed to be an alternate retelling of the TV series. The first movie is licensed by FUNimation. The first movie supposedly have 3 versions.

• 1.0 = Theater version (only played in theaters) | Out this summer
• 1.01 = Video release of the theater version, with a few touch ups | Out 11/17/09
• 1.11 = Straight from the digital source and slightly extended (best version) | DVD and Blu-ray release coming out spring 2010

And after this first movie, there are 3 more (of which are not licensed in N. America yet).
