Re: Official ANIME Discussion Thread

Sword of the Stranger is on Very Long Wait on my Netflix.

Saw Vexille last night... it was okay - too much similar with Appleseed. The story is pretty intriguing.

On my Netflix list:
Sword of the Stranger (Very long wait)
Crest of the Stars disc 4 (Very long wait)
Tekkon Kinkreet
Kakurrenbo: Hide & Seek
Mushi-Shi
Banner of the Stars (will not watch it till I finish the 4th disc of Crest of the Stars)
Banner of the Stars II (disc #3 is on Very long wait)
Darker than Black (disc #4 & #5 is Long wait)

I'm not sure if I will add Burst Angels (Blu-ray) on my list...

Great. Disney (grumble grumble). Crappy English dub in theater. No Blu-Ray release with sub. One of these days... At least they're releasing it. Hopefully with John Lasseter co-producing this one there's more of a chance it will come to the US home market faster.

Re: Official ANIME Discussion Thread

If you can wait until December, I'm pretty sure that the Japanese Region A Blu-Ray will have subs, as the Japanese Region 2 DVD to be released in July does.

Yes, but as you well know cost is usually an issue when it comes to imports, especially Asian ones.

You can determine that they won't release the movie in Blu-ray by looking at the theatrical trailer? It wouldn't surprise me if they don't. However never say never until the release plan has been revealed.

I did end my post by stating since John Lasseter was involved with Ponyo that this it might actually get a Blu-Ray release. As far as whether it will get one or not, I can only go by Disney's past record of theatrical anime releases to Blu releases.

Re: Official ANIME Discussion Thread

The presence of both a Jonas Brother and a Cyrus brother in the cast completely negates the value of the others. What, has a Miyazaki film become a promo tool for the Disney Channel? I'll wait for the Japanese language DVD.

BTW, I'm sure I'm the only one (in the world) to notice this, but the trailer makes this film look a lot like the 9th Pokemon film, POKEMON RANGER AND THE TEMPLE OF THE SEA.

FUTURE BOY CONAN DVD w/English subtitles

Help!! Does anyone own these dvds? Which one is the better version? I see that there are two Hong Kong versions that have English subtitles. How is the video/audio quality. And particulary, how are the English subtitles? Are the English subtitles done well or they awful Chinese English subtitles?

Nausicaa.net doesn't list either set, so they're probably both bootlegs.

Interesting comment on the dub seeing as how it's not even available for viewing in English yet from my limited knowledge of the film's release.

It's a Walt Disney production. Walt Disney is geared towards both adults and children. My assumption is that a lack of dub will decrease ticket (and eventually DVD/Blu-Ray) sales. My guess is children prefer not to read for an hour or two during their movie going experience. And I as well.

I'll make my assumption here and say I look forward to a fantastic English dub in theater. Disney rocks and so do English dubs . Disney + Ghibli = great combination (minus the fact that Disney doesn't have any immediate plans to release "Only Yesterday")

EDIT: I just caught the trailer and I say the dub is magnificent. Thank you Ghibli/Disney for what looks to be another fantastic film.

Re: Official ANIME Discussion Thread

Ghibli makes the best English dubs ever! Yesterday I just bought the new NTSC edition of Castle of Cagliostro to replace my Japanese one.

Re: Official ANIME Discussion Thread

Can anyone explain to me the three separate releases of Cromartie High School Complete Collection?
http://www.amazon.com/Cromartie-High...6661352&sr=1-1
http://www.amazon.com/Cromartie-High...6661352&sr=1-5
http://www.amazon.com/Cromartie-High...6661352&sr=1-6

All things being equal I definitely like the last one the best. Looks like the first one, and maybe the second one, are no-frills thinpaks, so I don't know the point of the third release.

The first two releases are in thinpaks and they don't have any extras. The third supposed collection is not officially solicited, but Amazon.com seems to have it. It remains to be seen if it's a valid release or if it will actually be released.

It was revealed that the 3rd collection will actually be a Best Buy (B&M) exclusive. It remains to be seen if Amazon.com will ship it or not.

In honor of the new forum, I'm going to close this thread... it's a bit too generic now.
