Disgaea and .hack/Roots have also been announced, and if Witchblade hasn't been announced yet, I think it will be soon. I've heard bad things about Disgaea (though I love the game). Now when the heck is Harmony Gold gonna allow the Macross movie to be released on DVD?
What is Mobile Suit Gundam MS IGLOO: Apocalypse 0079?
As for the ROD manga... the one currently being translated by Viz is the Yomiko one, and it's very cheesy. I think watching the tv series, enough is presented to flesh out the Yomiko/Nenene relationship... what the manga goes into, which isn't really fully explained by the anime, is the Yomiko/Donny relationship.
There's also another manga about the paper sisters, but that's not being released here yet.

Disgaea is a lot of fun for a series. I'm really enjoying it.
Mobile Suit Gundam MS IGLOO: The Hidden One Year War (movies) and Mobile Suit Gundam MS IGLOO: Apocalypse 0079 (OAV)
They are CGI shows that are supposed to be yet another part of the 1 Year war that is at the beginning of the Gundam timeline.
Not too bad.. But I'm a sucker for Gundam shows.

Ah, they were exclusives...
I know Bandai Entertainment said long ago that we'd get all of Gundam out in the US, but I wonder if that still holds true? I'm still eagerly awaiting any sign of ZZ and Victory...

I've really just got into buying anime this month. I've always liked it, but anime is way overpriced for my taste(i've been picking up alot from RSI in the bargin bin). But anyways i've been out of the loop for anime thats out. I looked around for a show my friend had that we watched like 8 years ago. It was called Slayers, and no one seems to have it, except the movies. The only place it seems is at Amazon, and its used (import=chinese bootleg). Is this show out of print or a new version of the DVDs coming out anytime soon? Also why the hell do anime companies make whole runs of shows or certain vol. out of print? I can understand if they lose the rights to a show, but theres no reason to make one vol. out of a series to go out of print. Sorry, for the rant at the end there.

I guess they're just taking their sweet time rereleasing the series.

To help clear things up on that last post:
Either way, I'm glad I picked up the whole Patlabor set during DDD's last sale.
Sorry for the confusion. It seems that the WEA recall may only apply to discontinued versions (SKUs) of select CPM DVDs. It may not be a universal recall on selected titles. It may be a recall on just particular DVD release versions of select titles.

AdultSwim & IFC News from San Diego Comic-Con: (source)
- Crayon Shin-chan will receive a test run on Adult Swim in August. Funimation had licensed the series earlier this year. While there is an already existing English language dub produced by Phuuz Entertainment, Funimation will be creating its own dub for this release.
- Funimation also mentioned that the IFC channel is preparing to air Funi properties Basilisk and Gunslinger Girl. IFC previously aired Samurai 7.

Satoshi Kon Fans
According Sony Pictures, Satoshi Kon's Paprika, which is scheduled for a theatrical run next year in Japan, is also listed for an October 31 DVD release in America. The film features animation by Madhouse and stars Megumi Hayashibara.
It's really bizarre for US DVD release to be ahead of the Japanese theatrical release. It looks like Right Stuf has confirmed this as well!
Edit: It looks like that Paprika won't be released in DVD until after it's released in Japan in 2007! It was some sort of website error!

So what's the word on Basilisk? Volume 1 streets next week and I was thinking about giving it a go. Is it worth picking up? What other shows would you compare it to? Any comments would be much appreciated. I would also like to thank WTK for sharing his knowledge regarding upcoming titles.

Basilisk is a ninja anime. It has been compared to Ninja Scroll. Basilisk is basically a fast-paced anime about love and hate, passion and betrayal with a simple plot. It has been said that the character designs are unique and varied; each one displayed unconventional battle technqiues. The music blends well with the animation as well. This series is not intended for young audiences with its share of extremely violence, blood & gore, and some nudity.
Here is a Basilisk Trailer from FUNimation. You might be interested with the Trinity Blood Trailer as well!

From what I've seen, Basilisk is an entertaining action series. It explores some of the moral and philisophical implications of its subject matter (ninjas whose only purpose is to kill) and there is an overall sense of tragedy and angst, but the show does not get bogged down by its own seriousness. It revels in the coolness (for lack of a better word) of ninjas with extraordinary and fantastic "skills." Part of the excitement of watching Basilisk is finding out the various hidden powers (and there are quite a few). I think the biggest strength of the series is the character designs and the plotting of the fights - i.e. they actually use their skills to their advantage and try to out-smart each other rather than just the standard melee combat. HOWEVER, the characters in general are fairly one-dimensional with no significant development in their arcs. Also I found the main female character to be somewhat annoying. Ultimately, worth watching, IMO, but not for those looking for more thought-provoking fare. Personally, I am waiting for the complete dvd set.
I believe this series was the basis for the Japanese film, Shinobi: Heart Under Blade. Similar in tone, but I found the latter to be too melodramatic with bad acting and poorly designed costumes.

Is there a 3rd season of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex in the works? I'm dying waiting for the 7th disc of the 2nd season.
Which, by the way, I'm getting sick of the way Anime is released here. Just put the damn series out right off the bat. This "wait 8 weeks for 3-4 episodes" shit is grating on me. Especially when the discs are getting upwards of $25 for 3 friggin' episodes. Now I know why people by the 3-disc HK sets off ebay so often...despite the shit subtitles on them (bootleg or not).
Can't they just release the damn whole thing first, then release the individual discs according to schedule - so if you want the whole set, you can get it right off the bat?

Bandai Entertainment has acquired the rights to two of the OVA series: Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - The Laughing Man and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Individual Eleven. They also announced the license for the movie placed in the Stand Alone Complex universe, Ghost in the Shell – Solid State Society. The movie is tentatively planned for a summer 2007 release. I would assume that the OVAs are probably going to be released around that time as well.
Manga Entertainment is also releasing Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Season 1 DVD Set (Hyb) on Oct. 31, 2006.
