The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread

There seem to be a lot of Pinball fans here but I have never seen a dedicated thread to all things pinball.

I tend to play my majority of pinball on the consoles nowadays, so I figured we need an Ultimate Pinball thread with reviews and information about old and new pinball games on the current systems. I went thru and made a list of everything available on the current systems and will also list the games that are backwards compatible on the current systems.

This thread may open you up to some games you didn't know existed that you could currently enjoy, or may remind you of some that you need to dig out and play.

I plan on listing the names of the tables available on each game but I am just getting the page up now to at least get it started.

Please feel free to discuss any and all pinball topics (console or not), post reviews of old and new games, and post information on upcoming games or ones you wish would be released.

If I have left any out, please post and let me know and I will add them to the list. I was just going to concentrate the main list on the U.S released games available on consoles since most of the posts here deal with just that. A list of all the past pinball games on computer would likely be exhausting and is not something I wish to compile. Feel free to add any and all of them if you like.

If you think I should list games like Peggle which have pinball-like play but is not exactly pinball, let me know and I will add them. If there is a release with a pinball mini-game or a pinball game within a bunch of games (like the Intellivision Lives! collection) that is backwards compatible, let me know and I can add it. If there are any games that you have tested that are not compatible (for example the original Pro Pinball for PS1 will not play on the PS3), then let me know as I have not acquired or tried every game listed.

Mods, if you see any past pinball threads or discussions you think would be good to roll into here, please feel free.

I love discovering new pinball games I have not played and hopefully will find some new ones mentioned here. Thanks.

Re: The Ultimate Pinball Thread

For PSP you can also add Pinball Fantasies and Pinball Dreams. Each of these are 4 tables from the Amiga. Both are also on the iPhone. I really like these tables though they are limited being old Amiga games. Fantasies is currently out in the US for PSP Mini for $6.99 and Dreams is on the way and is already available in the UK.
Really fun time killers.

Ah cool, that was the one I saw when I searched. Although it says it only comes with 12 tables. Looks pretty cool, but I don't think I could justify the cost though.

Re: The Ultimate Pinball Thread

My neighbor used to work on the musical "Tommy" and was given this table as a present:

It's really sweet. I always try it out when I'm over there.

Did anyone get the Pinball Heroes for PSP games? I'm a little interested, but would have preferred to buy the bundle for $10 or so. $4 each seems a little pricey to me, especially without being able to check a demo out first.

Re: The Ultimate Pinball Thread

Another pinball fan here. I loved the Theater of Magic table and could typically rock the high score on it in college.

As for video games, i haven't bought the new 360 Williams collection game. How does it compare to Pinball FX?

edit: I would also flip out if i could find an old Baby Pac-Man table and get to play it a few rounds. I remember my jaw dropping the first time i saw a combo video game/pinball machine on a boardwalk arcade at the beach when i was a kid.

Any release date for Dreams or the US? I could only find the UK info like you mentioned.

I didn't think about adding an iPhone section but that is a good idea. Let me know if there are any others for the iPhone. Question: if a game is available for the iPhone, it means it is also available on the iTouch, right? I don't have either but I am assuming that is so.

I take it that Dreams for the PSP is DLC only, correct?

The Williams collection is a completely different animal from Pinball FX since that former is based on all real tables. But it is a great collection with two of my all time favorite real pinball tables: Whirlwind and Funhouse. In my opinion, the game is worth it's price for those two only. They play very much like the real tables, both of which were fantastic. But I am a little biased. I can't tell you how many hours I played this skipping class near the end of high school at the local arcade. (It was a small town and so they were about 5 years behind the death of arcades at that point - 1990.) The only thing missing is the little fan blowing on you from the real Whirlwind.

Taxi is also a guilty pleasure for me.

And I agree on the Baby Pac-man table. I played the shit out of that game when it was released. I think I read somewhere that it had a lot of repair problems or was maybe pretty expensive because they were quite rare to see.

As far as i know the only games that are for iPhone and won't work on iTouch either require the camera or the phone feature.

I have a couple pinball games on my iTouch. The one i normally play is Wild West Pinball.

Let me know them all and I will add them. Is Wild West Pinball a solo game or is it one table in a package of them?

One table. The few i picked up have all been one table but they are also normally only priced at a buck each so it isn't a horrible deal. Most of them also fluctuate in price so the couple tables i have on my Touch were on sale for free at some point (which is why i play them).

Re: The Ultimate Pinball Thread

There are quite a few pinball games on iPhone/touch. The Zen guys even have a table available. I only have the Wild West one currently.

There is no release date for the PSP mini release of Dreams. They say it takes longer here because they have to get the ESRB rating first which isn't required in the UK.

The guy i'm buying it from has customized it so he was able to put 180 + tables on it and expandable to put more in the future. So there's a way to modify it with a little work.

Pretty cool. Maybe one day I can get something like that. Although, from the few (crappy) videos I have seen, the tables look a bit "flat" on the screen. I am pretty sure Visual Pinball is rendered in 3D (D3D I assume), but it sure does look very 2D.

The Gottlieb Collection is already out on the Wii. I bought it last Wednesday (12-02) at Best Buy. It was $19.99. I haven't seen it released anywhere else yet but there are a couple online gaming sites listing a release date of 12-15-09.

You are correct sir. I bought it at BB last week with a 10% off coupon. You can get the equivalent of that coupon this week at BB because they have it on sale for $17.99.

And the sales ad interestingly states, "Exclusively at Best Buy." Don't know if that is just for a limited time or what.

Re: The Ultimate Pinball Thread

I'm a big pinball fan as well.....real table only however. I don't like the video game versions very much.

I have:

Super Mario Bros. machine (spent a measly $685 on it in near mint condition)
$700 from a recent sale of a machine to find a new one

I've had in the past:

Baby Pac-man (couldn't repair it.....sold it for 3x as much as I spent on it.)
Special Forces (paid $400, got $700 for it a couple years later)
The Wizard (paid $75, got $500 for it a few months later....unable to repair)

I also have quite a few arcade machines including:

4-Slot MVS
Daytona USA
Space Invaders Deluxe
Nintendo Vs. Sit-down
Vigilante
