The Office

When a potential buyer arrives at Dunder Mifflin, Michael, Dwight, Andy and Pam team up to win his favor by highlighting their top-drawer contacts. Meanwhile, Michael reflects on memorable moments at the office.

The Office got 3 more episodes yesterday and we are now getting a 25 episode season.

Just a heads up: this is going to be kind of a clip show episode. There will be new footage, it is a new episode, but the "Michael reflects on memorable moments at the office" part of the synopsis is the clip show part.

Ugh. I fucking hate clip shows. On the other hand, I wasn't really looking forward to this show's return anyway, so I'm not terribly disappointed.

Lame. So originally the show wasn't going to return until February 4th, but since NBC has pretty much nothing else they decide to bump The Office up with a clip show?

I can't imagine this'll be an actual clip show. I thought those were banned in the Pulaski Treaty of 1989.

Haha, let me rephrase. I hadn't realized it was already coming back and when I saw this thread, I didn't think "SWEET! The Office is back!" I still like the show, but if it got cancelled tomorrow I probably wouldn't miss it. These days, I just watch it because it's surrounded by shows I actually enjoy.

That's exactly how I feel too, except that I don't enjoy the shows around it.

I've watched the show from the beginning and absolutely love seasons 1-3, but the last couple seasons have been downers for me and I can't get excited about it anymore. I'll keep watching until the end but it won't bother me whatsoever when it ends. The ends of other shows at least bum me out for a little bit. The end of The Office won't bum me out one bit.

Re: The Office -- "The Banker" -- 01/21/10

Showing clips from past episodes actually works well in the context of a mocumentary television show. The guy is asking Toby questions and naturally Toby will think about past events before answering; it's as if the fictional directors/producers inserted past footage to show what Toby is probably thinking of when answering the questions.

The way they are doing it is better than clip shows where it is supposedly a flashback or something else that the viewer could never really see.

crap, I was looking forward to a new episode of the office for the last couple weeks and all we get is a clip show with a couple new scenes , and yeah a clip show does work in a this documentary type show but I been looking forward to a new episode for the longest time since its been a while since we got a new episode

Though I liked the bit of Pam saying that Micheal is now the highest level employee of Dunder Mifflin.

Re: The Office -- "The Banker" -- 01/21/10

I actually really enjoyed this episode despite it being a clip show. I especially enjoyed seeing Jim and Pam's relationship progress; that was definitely the best part.

The new scenes were great too. The temporary Stanley, Michael being the highest ranking member of Dunder Mifflin, Computron, Michael slamming the door on Ryan, and Michael's reminiscing (shows how highly he thinks of the people he works with) were all great.

Lazy episode. Not the best way to kick off 2010 for the only decent show on NBC.

I think I saw Elvis Costello in the background there at the end.

You obviously don't watch Parks & Recreation followed closely by newcomer Community.

Re: The Office -- "The Banker" -- 01/21/10

though the ending electric city bit cracked me up again. Watching the old jim/pam moments make me miss those moments and the tension between the two, but i know if they had kept stretching it 6 seasons in people would be complaining but I miss those moments.

Well I got a song from Travis, so I guess that redeems it a bit.

Still not thrilled about the clip show. Oh well, some good moments. Enjoyed it for what it was.

Huh. I tuned in to watch "The Office" tonight but instead they aired a "Family Ties" clip show instead. Weird.

For some reason whenever I see a clip show, I think of "Family Ties." I remember that sinking feeling of disappointment five minutes into an episode when I realize I'm being tricked into watching a rerun. Never thought "The Office" would do something like this.

Yeah, it was bullshit. Do any comedies or sitcoms do this anymore? I mean, this happened quite a bit back in the day before the shows were in sydication. To give the viewer a trip down memory lane. But when "The Office" is on several times a day, on several channels, then I don't need or want the prime time show to pull this crap. With or without a cool Travis song.

Re: The Office -- "The Banker" -- 01/21/10

Lame, lame, lame...except for "fake Stanley". That was hilarious. Everything else sucked. I sat and played Doodle Jump with the show in the background because I've already seen all the episodes, so there was no reason fro me to watch them again.

Anybody notice that that about 90% of the clips were from the first 3 seasons? Seems like even the creators agree that the show hasn't been as good since then.

Re: The Office -- "The Banker" -- 01/21/10

For a clip show, I didn't think it was that bad. The between-segments were enjoyable enough and they picked clips that were actually funny. But really, in today's age, when all the fans go out and buy the DVDs and watch them, a clip show is severely repetitive.

I've been watching through the entire run of Friends lately. Right now, I'm on season 9 and they were still doing clip shows at that point. I'm sure other shows have done them since 2002/2003, but that was the most recent example that popped into my head.

Still, my hatred for clip shows stays strong. The most striking thing about this episode is seeing how much weight Steve Carrell seems to have lost since the first season. Not that he's super skinny now, but he was much huskier when the show started.
