"V" on ABC this Fall (pics and video!)
I LOVED V as a child and still have the entire book set, comic set and memorabilia. Pretty excited about this...hopefully it won't be canceled after a few episodes since it's on ABC.

Cast: Elizabeth Mitchell, Joel Gretsch, Scott Wolf, Logan Huffman, Morris Chestnut, Morena Baccarin, Lourdes Benedicto
Today, the world woke up to find spaceships over every major city. The Visitors claim to have come in peace, bringing gifts of medical miracles and technological breakthroughs. They promise to do no harm. They're lying.
Most people believe the aliens have arrived just when we needed them most. We're eager to embrace their generous offers of help, but while tracking a terrorist cell, Homeland Security agent Erica Evans stumbles upon something far more sinister. Erica discovers that the aliens have plans to infiltrate our governments and businesses, planting seeds for their plot to control mankind. Convincing anyone of the truth will be impossible because the Visitors have two powerful weapons. First, they've given the people faith with their reassuring presence and gifts. Second, they've rallied our youth. Thousands of teens, including Erica's son, have been recruited as 'Peace Ambassadors' but they're actually serving as unwitting spies. When Erica gets thrust into the resistance movement, she'll have to balance her covert activities with her job and her role as a mother, fighting to protect her son Tyler - even as he joins forces with the enemy.
From executive producer Scott Peters, Emmy-nominated creator of The 4400, comes a bold re-imagining of the sci-fi classic. Let the invasion begin.

I'm very interested in this, but too bad it's a midseason series and won't air until 2010.
Looks like the video clips aren't working with this site.
BTW, I do recall reading that this new incarnation was developed by one of the Producers of The 4400, hence Joel Gretsch getting casted.

I was also a HUGE V fan when I was growing up. I still watch the old series. But with Knight Rider coming back and getting canned, I wont get my hopes up.

I agree. It will be like the old "V" show where they chase each other every week. Aliens against humans. Same thing they did with The Sarah Connor Chronicles. It gets old week after week.

A follow-up was apparently asked...
Q: What is an event program?"
A: "At this point," he explains, "we believe the show will be four parts, with each consisting of anywhere from 13 to 22 episodes. We want to craft a whole series. It will have a beginning, middle and end." "V" may be spread out over four seasons.

So it sounds like this is being treated as a regular series rather than a short-run series/miniseries.

i figure V will go the route Alien Nation did
i liked Alien Nation, but it didn't last but a season
it's hard to sustain those types of shows

Part of me wishes Sci-Fi was doing this series like they did Battlestar Galactica. They could give it a decent budget and it would survive a 4-year run easily. Who knows. Maybe we'll all be surprised.

Definitely gonna be a "Must watch" for me. Great cast, great premise, and a set end date(apparently). I never saw the original series or read anything about it, so I'm going in blind.

Re: "V" on ABC this Fall (pics and video!)
I, as well, have never seen anything in regards to the original, beyond some random references here and there in other works. I was born a bit late, and by the time I had aged enough to appreciate earlier works, it was nowhere to be found in syndication or elsewhere. And yes, I am aware of its currently availability via DVD. However, after deciding to give this current incarnation a chance, I have opted to wait until after this has finished airing to delve into the mid-'80's version.
In regards to the apparent proposed end date, and subsequent definitive stories and framework that comes with it; I am all for this type of thought in television. Using the Babylon Five basis of knowing exactly where you want to go, and knowing exactly how long it will take you to get there seems to be a way for shows (particularly genre shows which may otherwise be discounted) to find a venue to be aired.
Networks may be less hesitant to pull the plug after a weaker than expected first season if they know there are only two or three more. They can promote the show differently, and appeal to viewers who opt to not even begin watching in the first place, lest they become attached, and the show get cancelled prematurely, and without any sort of conclusive ending.
Extended "mini-series" of sorts, perhaps...

The Final Battle (the second miniseries) isn't bad and the resulting short-lived TV series was OK.
But all in all, the Original Miniseries is true classic sci-fi TV and especially great in its comparisons to human history (WWII). At least put that on your Netflix list. It's only 196 minutes since commercials have been removed.
