90210 (The CW) -- Discussion Thread -- Reboot of '90s Series

Tuesday, September 2nd - The CW - 2 hour Event

Synopsis of the show in General
Spoiler:
An edgy, contemporary spin-off of the iconic drama "Beverly Hills, 90210," the new "90210" looks at life through the eyes of Annie Wilson (Shenae Grimes, "Degrassi: The Next Generation") and her brother Dixon (Tristan Wilds, "The Wire"), whose first day at West Beverly Hills High School leaves no doubt they're not in Kansas anymore. The Wilson family, including dad Harry (Rob Estes, "Melrose Place") and mom Debbie (Lori Loughlin, "Summerland"), has relocated to Beverly Hills to keep an eye on Harry's mother Tabitha (Jessica Walter, "Arrested Development"), a feisty-but-faded former television star and a charter member of the Betty Ford Clinic.

For Annie and Dixon, the awkwardness of being the new kids is made worse by the fact that their dad has taken a job as the high school principal. The school is one big culture shock for Annie, a sweet and friendly girl with a passion for the theater, and Dixon, a star athlete and scholar who was adopted by the Wilson family after they took him in as a foster child. Annie and Dixon have a close sibling relationship, which they'll need to help them cope with all the new cliques and classmates, including Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord, "Nip/Tuck"), a hot, spoiled, rich girl; Ethan (Dustin Milligan, "Runaway"), a popular jock whose abilities rival Dixon's; Navid (Michael Steger, "The Winner"), an aspiring journalist who heads up the school's daily newscast; and Silver (Jessica Stroup, "Prom Night"), a rebel who produces and stars in a YouTube-type video series.

Even the faculty seems hip and sophisticated at WBHHS, such as smart and funny teacher Ryan Matthews (Ryan Eggold, "Dirt") and beautiful guidance counselor Kelly Taylor (Jennie Garth, the original "Beverly Hills, 90210"). Kelly's former classmate. The Wilson family has just begun to realize how much their lives are about to change.

Synopsis for Tuesday's 2 hour premiere "We're not in Kansas anymore; The Jet Set"

Spoiler:
The spin-off begins with Harry Wilson and his family moving from Kansas to Beverly Hills, where he becomes the new principal of West Beverly Hills High School. The move also allows him to care for his mom, a former TV star. Harry's kids, Annie and Dixon, attend their first day of class and meet an assortment of privileged kids. Dixon tries out for the lacrosse team, but jealous teammates attempt to thwart his efforts.
- Thanks Djariya!

While this thread is being started a day early, SoapNet will be running a 24 hour marathon on some of the best, classic 90210 episodes. Its a good way to play catchup with some of our favorite stars before they show up on Tuesday...

If you happen to miss Tuesdays episode, The CW will be replaying it again Thursday 8 -10 as well.

Currently we have two different threads discussing the show:

Actually its more like two days early. Monday and Tuesday night will be a busy night of tv, with Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, Big Brother, and 90210.

Well, the other threads can probably die now since we are heading into the fall season with actual episode discussion. I'm really psyched especially after seeing the sexy Entertainment Weekly cover with Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty.

Monday and Tuesday are going to be really busy and fun nights of TV.

Actually he's not involved with this show anymore. Jeff Judah and Gabe Sachs, who produced Freaks and Geeks, took over as head writers and Producers. Thomas was only involved in developing the pilot, then left the show.

Due to baseball on WGN, the premiere won't start to air in Chicago until 10:30 or 11:00 (normal timeslot would be 7:00-9:00)

But here's a plus, two viewers will win $9021.00

Does anyone know if this will be available (legally) online? Both showings (looks like it's going to be repeated Thursday) are during Big Brother.

You can watch Big Brother online at CBS.com - episodes are usually available after
midnight. Suggestion, watch 90210 on Tuesday and then watch Tuesdays Big Brother
online - if you decide to watch Thursdays Big Brother online - they may spoil who gets
evicted from the house somewhere on the site (front page?) before you get to the
video.

LB...

That sucks for the folks in Chicago! Better cross your fingers that the Cubs game doesn't go into Extra Innings. The ratings in Chicago are going to suck and alot of DVR users are going to get burned unless the game ends at a reasonable hour.

I'll give this a shot. I did enjoy the original 90210 for a couple of the high school years. And some of these actors look like they could actually pass for teenagers, so that's an improvement right there.

Yeah, WGN is our CW affiliate. Trust me, more people would be pissed if the Cubs weren't on. And yeah, even with Chicago being the 3rd biggest market in the US the ratings will probably blow. Personally, everyone I know thats watching is gonna be DVRing the thing. I don't know if that helps with ratings though.

i'm gonna watch though i have low expectations. i watched the original ever since it was broadcast that one summer when nothing else was on. they did that and i w as hooked. i watch Soapnet 5-7 now bc they restarted from the beginning. i love it!! saw some of the marathon, but didn't want to ruin the eps. weekly even though i've seen now a million times.

don't think this new one will even come close to recapturing the magic. it will be more geared to the Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill crowd which i am far from.

i hope to be pleasantly surprised, but i don't think so.

I'm sure this will be on Xbox Live. I'll just download it from there if I hear enough good buzz about it. But I didn't even watch the original, so I'm not exactly holding out a lot of hope for this one. Could be wrong, though.

Ratings for the Cubs game will probably be double what any CW show in that time slot could do.

This started about 30 minutes ago in my market, and I am very surprised at the amount of people that I recognize, and I am not talking about the former 90210ers.

Lucille Bluth, Sam's devil girlfriend from Reaper, and Eve from Nip/Tuck, if they are all who I think they are.

I hate the chick from Nip/Tuck, I thought she looked super OLD on that show and now she's playing high school again - this really IS 90210! Hopefully I can get past her awfulness and enjoy the show.
