I hope this one is a whole lot less folky. I miss the way Jenny used to sound. No doubt I'm still getting into it regardless...

Don't seem to be many fans of her here. But for anyone madly in love with her like I am, she is going to be performing on Letterman tonight w/ Elvis Costello.

And Jenny in HD = major

Ya know I bought this album and was so pissed about the packaging that I didn't open it for a few weeks and ended up returning it.

Agreed that the packaging sucks. It's a decent album but not as good as her first. For some reason she insists on singing in a very annoying higher register on several of the songs.

Agreed. I love "Rabbit Fur Coat"!! The only songs I'm wild about on "Acid Tongue" are Fernando and Jack Killed Mom.

I liked her 1st solo album better also, but you really don't like "Next Messiah". I think it may be the best song she has ever done or even been a part of. The musical arrangement alone is phenomenal. The only think that hurst it is Jonathan Rice singing, the guy is such a panty-waste, I wish she would stop collaborating w/ him.

I'll give the disc another spin this evening on the way home from work.

"Next Messiah" is awesomely epic. It reminds me of the also wonderful "Carolina Drama" from the new Raconteurs album.

Re: Jenny Lewis - "Acid Tongue" (9/23/08)

After listening to a few Rilo Kiley albums, Acid Tongue was my first foray into Jenny Lewis's solo work (and I've since worked my way backwards to Rabbit Fur Coat). Definitely, the standout tracks were Acid Tongue, Next Messiah, and Carpetbaggers. But I prefer the melodies and consistency of Rabbit Fur Coat. I think the only song I'm not totally into on that one is Born Secular, but that's probably just because I haven't listened to it enough

Both albums are fantastic. What's the problem with the packaging? The album cover is a sheet of acid by the way. Jenny rules. I picked up Rilo Kiley's Under The Blacklight and that album is brutal. No wonder she went solo.

Well, it's just a cardboard sleeve (with a few pictures tucked in). That kind of crap is for promos, not retail releases.

Rabbit Fur Coat is my favorite release of 2006, so this one had a lot to live up to. It didn't. It's still a good record, but nowhere near as great as her solo debut.

I think I'm one of the few who actually like (a good deal of) Under the Blacklight. Though why The Moneymaker was released as the first single I'll never know, as it's one of the weakest songs on the album.

I think the new one is better actually. More evolved or something.
