Thursday evening:
Probably Tuesday or Wednesday night will go out an pick up a couple of horror movies for viewing on Thursday night. I'v noticed there are a couple of threads with a bunch of horror movie titles.

MONDAY 10/27
The Lady Eve (1941 Preston Sturges) 00 Charles was such an idiot and Jean such a bitch that it made for very difficult viewing. Eugene Pallette and William Demarest are the highlights, but are barely in it.
Come Drink with Me (1966 King Hu) 73 Excellent fight scenes and costumes (i want her hat). Excellent acting by Cheng and Yueh. Poor editing though. i can't believe this is 42 years old. wow.
TUESDAY 10/28
Raining in the Mountain (1979 King Hu) 57
The Swordsman (1990 King Hu, et.al.) 06 i had no idea what was happening most of the time and there were so many close-ups i thought the AR must be wrong.
WEDNESDAY 10/29
Zatoichi's Cane Sword (1967 Kimiyoshi Yasuda) 46
DuckTales: V3D1 (1987) exempt mostly terrible series, but the nostalgia value is very high.
THURSDAY 10/30
Sleepy Eyes of Death 3: Full Circle Killing (1964 Kimiyoshi Yasuda) 01 unpleasant, sexist, morally questionable (and yet preachy), incredibly overrated ripoff of Throne of Blood.
The Office: S05E05 (2008 Stephen Merchant) 100
Memories (1995 Koji Morimoto, Tensai Okamura, Katsuhiro Otomo) 90 Magnetic Rose was the highlight, beautiful and heartbreaking. Cannon Fodder was very good too (loved the animation). Stink Bomb was good, but didn't really fit overall.
FRIDAY 10/31
Akira (1988 Katsuhiro Otomo) 74 [↓ 2nd viewing] when i was a kid (heh) i remember watching a cnn report about "anime" and this film in particular. i had never heard the word before or even known that they made animation for adults, so this is film is mostly a nostalgia trip. - not nearly as confusing this time around.
Crusoe S01E04 (2008 Michael Robinson) 00 i'm out. such an idiotic series.
SATURDAY 11/01
World Apartment Horror (1991 Katsuhiro Otomo) 48 it would have worked better as a straight comedic drama.
SUNDAY 11/02
Bugmaster (2006 Katsuhiro Otomo) 69 A quiet contemplative fantasy that is at times quite beautiful (when Yoki talks about his mother and the rainbow scene), but it is also episodic and filled with flashbacks. The acting (especially by Odagiri, Moriyama, and Inada), art direction and costumes are all excellent. The cinematography is top notch, as is the case with many Japanese films.
Sigur Rós: Heima (2007 Dean DeBlois) 100 i'm still not fully convinced that they aren't angels who have taken on human form.
Viðrar vel til loftárása (1999 Arni & Kinski) 100 [↔ 2nd viewing] all Sigur Rós videos are beautiful, but this one is extraordinary. A beautiful happysad romantic tearjerker in a mere seven minutes.
