How long until a 20GB 360 isn't big enough?

So I transferred my Rock Band disc to my hard drive and picked up the Metallica album DLC and realized I only have around 2GB left. I looked through my content & didn't really see any crap that I could delete (demos & vids). With the promise of 500 songs by year's end, and GH4 right around the bend (also promising DLC), will a 20GB be a wasted drive for die-hard Rock Band players? I'm going to try to limp through the rest of the year and grab an Elite with my income tax return. What sucks is, I already use 2 360's, so what becomes of the spare? Is it even worth it to sell it off?

Do you think 2GB will last the rest of the year? I'd say I purchase about 75% of the DLC released, plus GH4, Fallout 3, and maybe another game or two to have saved data from...will I make it?

I doubt it, but that's just me. And don't forget that we may soon have the option of installing games...

If 55 songs are ~1.5g, and you buy 75% of the DLC for rock band, you'll be hosed once they release ~70 more songs. Which, given the upcoming albums will be before the end of the year.

Not to mention - the 20 free ones coming up.

Yup, feeling the pinch of the 20 GB drive too with things left I don't really want to delete. Right now i'm like rotating between demos, but i'm itching to get a 120GB drive by the end of the year too.

I upgraded to the 120GB drive last year (or early this year) when it was on sale at Amazon, and I'm really glad I did. I used to have to delete demos, videos, etc., but now I download away and I still have over 90GBs left.

Most stores have lowered the price of the 120gb drive to $149. I still says that's way too much. You can get a 500gb usb drive for less than $100. I did see a used 120 drive at Gamestop yesterday for $99. With my gamer card that would be $90. I don't think it came with the transfer cable though. I might be able to use a code from a friend who has the elite to get it from MS. Seems like a better deal than ebay.

I'm in the same boat...I've only got 4 gig left, have yet to transfer the RB1 tracks and plan on downloading at least 3 of the announced full albums and will definitely be getting GH:WT... if I ever see the 120 on sale somewhere I'll have to jump on it.

Do the HDs you can buy separately now come with the transfer cable?

I'm pretty sure the 120 does.

Yeah, the packaged 120 comes with the cable, the transfer disk and the code. I bought mine the week before the price drop but Best Buy gave me my 30 bucks back. I just ran out of room on my 20 gig with videos, expansions/maps and over 40 arcade titles.

Well, you could if you wanted to put it in a PS3, but it has nothing to do with tha 360 in this thread.

Also, a 60 GB with transfer cable, wired headset and 3 months of Live will soon be available for $99.99. That's the route I will be going, I think.

I'm thinking I'm going to be upgrading to at least the 60GB drive soon. Too much Rock Band / Guitar Hero stuff to keep, plus I'm never deleting that free HD episode of South Park they released...

I have 8.2gb left, after the RB1 export. I can hold out for a while, but it will be RB/GH DLC that ends up breaking me. In fact, I would guess that when RB3 comes and I want to export the RB2 songs, I won't have enough room for all 84.

Dude...you are fucked.

But seriously, I just upgraded to a 120gb (with the amazon $60 GC deal) for the very same reasons you mentioned above. I was down to around 4 or 5gb and didn't want to deal with running out of space and deleting shit constantly. And with the new harddrive install option coming, the 120gb is pretty necessary. Plus I have been wanting to burn more music on it but have waited due to lack of space.

Oh, and if the Death Magnetic DLC is any indication, GH:WT is going to be an unoptimized hog.

Maybe the problem there was because they didn't know how to set it up properly to play in GH:III and GH:WT without just putting both 'versions' of each songs. If that is the case, I'm going to guess it won't be a problem in the future because they won't have many other duel releases.

We'll have to see. The largest part of any audio download would, obviously, be the audio tracks. Assuming the audio is identical for the different versions of the game, the game data would be the only variable and that should be negligible in comparison.

Wait, you can't upgrade the 360 drive unless you buy an elite? Or is there a special 120gb drive you can buy separately. I just figured the drives were interchangable like the PS3.

You can only use official MS HDDs. You can buy a 60gb or a 120gb at retail. There used to be a stand-alone 20gb, but that may have been discontinued recently.

So, no, you don't need an Elite to upgrade, but you can't just buy whatever you want either.

Maybe it's just me, but I could easily see why the game data would be bigger then just the audio tracks.

I have almost 7gigs left out of my 20gigs, with a good deal of content that I can delete without blinking. I think I should be good until the end of the console's life cycle.

Though I hope we can re-download shit we've bought off of XBLA onto future consoles.
