This is turning out to be my best concert year ever

I can't remember a year as good as this:

Van Halen w/Roth
Queensryche in a club
X for the first time
Tom Waits for the first time
Front row for Iron Maiden on a classics tour
8th Row for The Cure (haven't seen them in ~15 years)
Yes (haven't seen them in ~15 years)
Peter Murphy (retrospective tour)

And the year isn't even half over. Who knows what will be announced as the year goes on. Judas Priest, Elvis Costello, Led Zeppelin?

There are so many shows this year, I am skipping bands I would normally never miss (Rush, Radiohead). There have been years where I have seen more shows, but this is likely the winner in overall quality and anticipation.

I passed on seeing Van Halen last night due to the ticket prices ($125 each). I'll probably regret not going but I drew the line on that price.

Definitely more shows to see this year than last:
Robert Plant & Allison Krauss
Tom Petty & Steve Winwood
Wilco
R.E.M.
Radiohead
Pearl Jam

I saw Billy Idol a couple of years back and he was great. He definitely was into it and wasn't going thru the motions.

It's hard for me to get out much these days, but Springsteen two weeks ago in Atlanta was spot on brilliant. Hard to believe a 58-year-old can push himself that hard in concert.

I've got a pretty awesome "weekend" lined up:

Minus The Bear and Portugal The Man on Thursday
NOFX, No Use For A Name, and American Steel on Saturday
The Slackers on Monday

The summer's shaping up quite nicely too. Lucky for me, most of the shows I go to are pretty cheap!

I'm hoping to see Boris, Torche and Wolves In the Throne Room in Montreal mid-July. I've only been to one other concert in my 30 years...

Got 4th row seats for Duran Duran next week, then 4th row again for Neil Diamond in July. Harsh on the wallet, but sure to be memorable.

so many shows I'd love to see (Madonna, Tina Turner, Van Halen, True Colors Tour, Sheryl Crow, Melissa Etheridge, etc..) but I just am not having a good year financially so I am not going. But The B-52's came where I live for free last year, and they're one of my favorite bands of all time, so I suppose it was good enough since I honestly can't afford to spend $100+ for a concert ticket right now, and I refuse to have crappy seats at a concert either

If anyone came to Detroit that I actually wanted to see, I'd go to more shows, but so far it's been British Sea Power a couple months ago and The Swell Season this past weekend. Not going to pay ridiculous money to see Elvis Costello open for the Police (ugh).

I saw them on the Dream Tour in Mountain View and they were really good. They had no opening band and played for over 2 1/2 hours.
