I'm thinking of parting with the 25 or so laserdiscs I have left along with my RCA player. Nothing particularly interesting except for maybe the Criterion Othello set. Is Ebay the only good place to look for current prices?

Up until about a month ago Robot Wars, still Robot Wars was released kind of innocuously in the Full Moon Classics 2 Box Set, you might be able to capitalize on that though...

Only the rarest ones will be worth anything. On a lark, a few years ago I listed about 500 of my laserdiscs to Big Emma for a quote. They told me they'd give me $500 for them all . I kept them.

CED only lasted from 81-86. Their Laserdisc players were probably made after that.

In my LD collection, the Criterion Bond LDs with the "banned" commentaries are the only ones likely to ever be worth anything, but I rather like the (first ever!) commentary on the CC King Kong and the Scorsese commentary on CC Taxi Driver.

After Universal released Colossus: The Forbin Project on dvd in fullscreen I looked at the widescreen LD on ebay. Was going for around $50-60 at that time. Don't know about now.

I remember when I got $350 for my Frighteners Signature Collection set.... ah... those were the days... I'm sure that's worthless now that the content has made it's way to DVD.

I'm with ya on that. I got rid of all my LD's on eBay just when DVD was starting out, and I got what I considered top dollar for most of my stuff. A guy in NY gave me $120 for the Fawlty Towers box set, and I sold both Star Wars box sets (SE and Definitive) to a guy in London for $200. I also had a bunch of Signature Collection boxes that I got good money for, including E.T.

I have a DVL-700 player with about 400 LDs. 2 copies of the "Rescuers" with the naked scenes, CAV of "Who Framed Roger Rabbit," signed CAV copy of "Robinson Crusoe on Mars" and "War of the Worlds."

Almost all the serials, most sealed and quite a few still sealed.

I transfered the Bond LD commentaries (Dr. No, FRWL, Goldfinger) to DVD-R with the official anamorphic SE DVD transfers. It took some time, but ultimately, it was worthwhile.

1776 Pioneer Special Edition LD is still the only way to see that musical in it's complete version...so I'd say that one is rare.

I should have sold my Star Wars LDs before they finally came out with the original versions on DVD. I'm trying to time my sale of my Japanese import of "Song of the South" for just before it ever comes out on DVD, if it ever does.

Since we have new special editions of Taxi Driver and Bram Stoker's Dracula, are the criterion Laserdiscs of said films still worth getting?

I believe that the Criterion LD of Taxi Driver had a Scorsese commentary that is not on the DVD.

The Dracula Criterion also had an editing workshop where you could re-edit a couple of scenes to your liking. I haven't watched my Blu-Ray of it yet, but I don;t believe it has that feature.

I'd like to find the Laserdiscs of the American Film Institute Tributes to Bette Davis/Jimmy Cagney/Hitchcock et al - these do not seem to have made it to DVD as yet for some reason?

I sold a box set called The Complete Tex Avery for four times what it cost me about a couple of years ago. Might have just been lucky, but there's an awful lot of stuff in that set that still hasn't been released on DVD.
