Your “Unpopular” Views on James Bond…

What "unpopular" opinions do have about the highly successful James Bond franchise with it's myriad films, original novels and countless multi-media spin-offs? Here's my rundown:

1) You Only Live Twice was a superior Connery outing to Goldfinger and Thunderball.

2) Roger Moore is a better actor than Sean Connery.

3) The Living Daylights was the weakest Bond film in the last two decades, with a so-so Cold War plot and weak baddies.

4) License to Kill was (outside of Casino Royale) the strongest Bond film in the last two decades, with a excellent revenge plot and charismatic baddies.

5) Science fiction and fantasy themes has always been integral with James Bond from almost the onset.

6) The Soviet Russians being the arch baddies has always been a Bond brainbug (perpetrated by the overrated GoldenEye).

7) Moonraker was the strongest Bond movie of the 1970s.

8 ) Tommorow Never Dies and The World is Not Enough were better Brosnan outings than GoldenEye.

9) Jaws getting a girlfriend and turning "good" in MR never bothered me, since Jaws was the ridiculous (but fun) character that he always was.

10) Die Another Day was not ruined by sci-fi gadgets or ice palaces, but a weak and needlessly convoluted plot.

It is the same story told over & over again with some variation.

I'm the only one of my friends who thought Indiana Jones could take Bond down.

Used to love Bond as a kid, but as an adult I find it insipid and juvenile. And it hasn't aged well at all.

1) Casino Royal sucked. Ugly Bond. Boring story without any of the 'Bondisms' (no gadgets or cool lines. Even made fun of the Shaken, Not Stired line). Could be any generic spy movie.

2) Sean Connery not the best Bond.

3) Brosnan the best Bond and Goldeneye the best Bond movie ever.

I thought that was the popular view nowadays...

My unpopular view: Octopussy was Moore's best, other than perhaps The Spy Who Loved Me.

Funny, that's what Joseph Campbell said about most hero stories.

I'd say he could have been the best Bond had he been given some better scripts. He made the most of what he had though and all of them are still damn entertaining.

I also have no idea why all the Bond films are so popular, they are repetitive. Also, I personally like realistic action films, where I know many of the sequences are actually possible. These movies are highly unrealistic.

Agreed. Although a lot of my opinion has to do with the fact I personally like Roger Moore more than Connery as an actor, the actual movies were a little more special effects-oriented and the filmmaking was a little more sophisticated than the early ones, but they hadn't devolved into self-reference and parody yet. They still had original ideas.

Here is my list with my views:

1. Daniel Craig is the best Bond Ever (Yes, thats right, even better than Connery)
2. Casino Royale is the Best Bond Ever
3. Dr. No is a better film than From Russia With Love
4. Eva green Is the best Bond Girl Ever
5. Milla Jovovich would make an awesome Bond girl.
6. Live and Let Die is One of the Worst Bond films
7. They should keep making Eva Green a Bond girl and giving her different characters to play.
8. The movies are a lot better than the books.
9. The Best Bond theme song is "The World is Not Enough" by garbage

1) Casino Royale was the best Bond film ever...and it saved the franchise.
2) Timothy Dalton was a better Bond than Roger Moore or Pierce Brosnan.
3) The only decent Bond film with Brosnan was Goldeneye.
4) Dalton's two Bond outings are much better than most of Roger Moore's.
5) Octopussy was actually enjoyable.
6) Thunderball proved that any action sequence taking place underwater is boring.
7) Though On Her Majesty's Secret Service was a very good Bond film, it should be
remade.
8) Bond films should never ever have any more villains striving for world domination.
9) Bond should always win fights by his wits and brawns, not by some stupid gadget.
10) Live & Let Die, Man with the Golden Gun, A View to a Kill, The World is Not Enough, Moonraker & Die Another Day should be erased from the James Bond film series.

1. The Bond series needs to stop 're-booting', 're-imagining' and re-hashing Fleming to death, satisfy the completists, buy off Kevin McClory already and bring back Blofeld.

2. Most entertaining Bond film: Diamonds Are Forever. It had everything.

1) Moonraker is no worse than the Spy Who Loved Me.
2) Claudine Auger (Domino) is the best Bond girl that lives
3) Roger Moore wasn't too old; he's easily the best thing in AVTAK
4) Octopussy is my favorite Moore Bond
5) Bronsnan was the best Bond yet (if you only consider FRWL, GF, and Thunderball then I think it's Connery, but I don't like him in YOLT and especially DAF)
6) The Bond movies should never, ever cast famous actresses (Eva Green and Diana Rigg are exceptions because those were critically important Bond girl roles for the series.)
7) The Dalton movies hold up better than most of the other ones.
8) Goldeneye is quickly becoming very dated (it's so 90s).
9) I was rooting for Christoper Lee at the of TMWTGG because he was so much more charismatic.
10) LALD is the worst film in the series, but it has the best, most original array of villian sidekicks.
11) While Ursula Andress is beautiful the Honey Ryder character is completely pointless and unnecessary.

Dr. No is quite possibly the most boring "action" movie I've ever had the misfortune of sitting through.

Casino Royale was the best Bond movie I've ever seen.

Brosnan was great in Goldeneye and went downhill from there.

Bond movies need more cyborgs, ninjas, pirates, dinosaurs, and aliens.

Bonus points for putting them all in a single movie.

Triple points of the villain is a cyborg ninja pirate dinosaur alien.

I'd say that's actually the popular opinion among most hardcores (with From Russia with Love and Goldfinger in the conversation).

I'm not sure this is exactly an unpopular opinion among Bond fans, but it certainly is among DVDTalkers and the various DVDTalk reviewers: "You Know My Name" is a great Bond theme.

I know this is unpopular: Jack Wade was a better sidekick than Felix Leiter.

Shirley Bassey's themes are overrated.
