You know, I knew the moment a video game forum was opened here at DVDTalk, some people would sink to the level of some of the "replies" I've seen so far ("Dreamcast sucks" with no further arguement comes to mind). I could argue for a year and a half why I think the games on the DC are better RIGHT NOW than the games for the PS2 (yes, I own both, and haven't touched my PS2 in about a month and a half), but that wouldn't matter to any of you. You have an opinion as do I. In a year, the PS2 MAY have better games than the DC, but from the coming soon list at EBWorld, it doesn't really look like it.

I've got 32 games for the DC currently, of which I would say 20 are classics. I've got 2 for the PS2 (rented a few more), and while I do enjoy them (SSX, TTT), they are hardly new material. Can the PS2 outprocess the DC? Yes. Is it right now? No. This will most likely change, as long as the developers kick it into gear and release games like "Skies of Arcadia" instead of "Fantavision" or most other PS2 games currently available.

Just because you have the power doesn't mean you are a better system. It's all about the games, and your choice in them. The whole Genesis vs SNES debate was usually decided if you were a sports freak, or loved great RPGS. It's all just a matter of opinion. You have yours, and I have mine.

What I'm trying to get out here is, try to keep the one liner (and rather useless) comments out of your posting schedule. I would HATE to see this board end up like most other video game boards I've seen. Just take a look at gameshark's board for a PERFECT example on how NOT to post. This will make it a better board, better community, and more than likely, make for better discussion. That is all.

Dreamcast sucks!

jk...well actually no, i'm not. to each his own.

but you do make a good point. we should keep all the system bashing in one place...maybe a thread devoted to "my system is better than yours!" i do agree that it is very annoying when people interrupt a thread to start picking fights with others just because they feel like starting something.

Agreed. Will try to give my PS2 a big hug and let bygones be bygones. Discusions should focus more on the games anyway. I can't count how many polygons are on the screen at one time anyway, so whats the difference.

I would personnally get a DC long before a PS2... and when the DC dies, i'd wait and get an Xbox before a PS2. The Gamecube however I wouldn't touch with a 1000 feet long poll. I have no respect for Nintendo which SUCKSSSS!! Yeah, that's right, it sucks!!! Ooops... digressed.

Oh no, I ruined the new forum! I gots to hide... I know! I'll go in the other forum.

I think ( no one asked but then if i waited to be asked i would have zero posts) that the only reason that the conversations degenerate to ______ sucks! Is because you need to defend your investment in time and money. I mean if i buy the PS2 then i had to have bought the right one.
so if people challenge your view it is easier to shout them down with The Dreamcast Sucks! It has been discontinued! Neeenurrr neeenurrr neeenurrr!

Sorry Cartman what were we talking about

Oh yeah. so i think it just will happen from time to time in any discussion when someone gets frustrated that the other side is not listening to the TRUTH as you see it. If most of us try to stay on point in discussing the merits or better yet the games most of the threads will stay on target.

So in conclusion PS2 RULES!!!

By the way I do not even own a ps2 i am stuck with a ps1 so i am just envious of all those playing better games than me . I will go hide now...

Well said, if we can keep this forum civil and make sure the flaming is kept to a minimum it can be a valuable resource for all of us.

I would prefer we stick to talking about the games but lets face it, some people can't afford all the systems out there and feel the need to justify why they went one way or the other.

It's called "Cognitive Dissonance", I remember an experiment where people were asked to do an unpleasant task and were polled afterwards on how bad it was. Whether or not they were paid for participating they were universally negative in their responses.

However, then a group was told they had to tell the people in the waiting room that the experiment was fun. This group ALL had less negative poll results. Psychologists agree that the more vested a person feels in a position the less likely they are to keep an open mind. It's human nature.

I don't think that any system really sucks. I only have a Nintendo (yes, the first one) and a PS2. The Nintendo is at my parents house in the shed. I normally would not have gotten a PS2, or any system for that matter, except that I love GT2, so I would have had to get a PS1 for sure. Anyway, my roomate was moving and I needed a DVD player. I figured it would be better to get a PS2 rather than anything else. And now I'll be ready for GT3 later this year.

As far as the games go, yes PS2 has some pretty bad games right now. I bought TTT, and have been playing mostly PS1's Driver 2. Now SW: Starfighter is out and I have something to tide me over until GT3 comes out.

Really the only games that I enjoyed on N64 were Mario 64, Zelda, Goldeneye, and later Perfect Dark (Best 1st person shooter on the market). Unfortunately N64 has absolutely no racing games that are worthwhile, but I've been spoiled by GT and GT2. Oh yeah, DC had one of the best figting games, Soul Blade, and only one other game that I liked on it, Crazy Taxi (I actually broke my controller playing this one. I just get crazy!)

Anyway, that's why I picked up the PS2. I won't be getting any other systems because I really don't play VGs enough to justify putting out the $$$. Unless of course the PS9 that they showed in the commercials gets a GT9 or GT10! Then I'm all over it!
