Is It Just Me, or Has it Been a Slow Year So Far?

I don't know, we're through the first Quarter, and I really think this has been a slow year so far, in terms of BIG releases.

There doesn't seem to be the same buzz around as many titles as there have been in years past....only The Departed comes to mind as a landmark release so far.

Maybe it's just my own particular (somewhat narrow) taste, but almost all of my buying thus far has been of older titles, OOP stuff, etc.

What say you?

Let's see...

Casino Royale
Happy Feet
Children of Men
The Departed
Babel
The Prestige
Borat
Peter Pan
Blood Diamond
Rocky Balboa

Yeah, it's been a pretty slow first quarter allright. Although I can see your point in that there hasn't been anything big in terms of great extra features.

I think a big reason is that most big movies are already out on dvd. Some have double and tripple dips out.

This year is shaping up to be a big year for me as far as old gems that I had almost given up hope for (Night of the Comet, Harry and the Hendersons, etc.) But as far as new films coming to dvd, I'd have to agree, its been slow. Hollywood isn't offering much to get excited about nowdays.

Twin Peaks season two makes this the best DVD year since 2002!

I agree though, there haven't been very many MUST HAVE purchases so far in 2007.

The Blade Runner set and those Kubrick SEs will liven things up when they get unleashed.

Three buys and only one month of Netflix, yeah its been very slow I agree. Season Two of Sentinel and Knots Landing would be nice but dont see that happening.

Yes, indeed. Those are the "Landmark" type of releases I'm talking about. Also excited about L.A. Confidential SE.

I agree it's slower than usual, but with this year's Criterions and Eclipses', I'm getting some MUCH wanted movies I've been waiting for. Still waiting for African Queen, Battleship Potemkin, Earrings of Madame De..., Jazz Singer, Duck Soup and many more movies that I would consider huge.

I've recently discovered Kurosawa on Criterion... so I've got too many expensive releases to buy now...

But I agree with you, not too many new releases are worthwhile right now. Even the ones I might be interested in will obviously be re-released before too long so I'm not bothering picing them up just yet.

As you can tell from the beginning of my post, I'm sticking mainly to older films I'm just getting to or catalog titles that have been on my want list for a while.

I have been enjoying this slow time. I've been able to catch up on my TV box sets that have been on my want list for a while.

its been a average year so far.... theres been quite a few releases so far and things will really pick up in may and won't slow down till jan. 08'.
the first three months of the year are always slower then the rest of the year but still some good releases.
i like alot of stuff so there is always something good in the way of tv on dvd and movies.

Didn't the third and fourth volumes of the Bond films come out in early '07?

Those are pretty loaded releases.

Universal is also going to release Legacy Series versions of Psycho and The Birds near Halloween.
