Hi, I have about a million DVD's and I am looking for the most efficient way to catalogue and organize my DVD's.

I have had 2 reccomendations so far, but I really do not know which is better. Maybe you all use one of these, and can give me a review of which you prefer...

The 2 programs I have been reccomend are:
Movie Organizer http://www.movieorganizer.com/
Ant Movie Catalog http://www.antbe/software/moviecatalog/

Or if you use something else, maybe make a reccomendation of what you personally use.

DVD Profiler by Intervocative software is a good one. Get it here: http://www.intervocative.com/Downloads.aspx
You can enter your dvds by title, barcode number, or put your disc in the cd rom drive, and it will detect it.

Once entered, it will put them in alphabetical order, so it's easy to find a title later. Being online, if something happens to your computer, you don't lose all the info, you spent so much time entering. It puts a pic of the dvd cover, and all the info about the movie (stars, director, writer, DD, DTS, etc.). It depends upon how much control you want. I've been using Ant Movie Catalog for quite a few years now and it is by far the most flexible of the apps that I've used. And unlike DVD Profiler, you can actually IMPORT data from another tool.

I have quite a few "homegrown" discs in my collection and AMC handles those easier than DVDProfiler. The report designer is really over-the-top. There are some great templates available, but I've designed my own report layout that is compact and includes coverart. (I periodically print out a "catalog" of my discs, insert the sheets into 3-ring sheet protectors and keep the binder on the coffeetable)

I even created a template so that I can have my DVD catalog on my cell phone.

I personally use Ant Movie Catalog. I myself prefer an offline thingie because its much quicker to update things, and no ads. You can automatically download data from IMDb via script to get more information about the movie you enter, and they can download covers too and you can sort them based on any entry (duration/director/release year/date of addition) and not just on the title.

Also it can catalog not only DVD but just about everything because you can make your own categories.

You might want to do a search on this as there are many threads about this and it's on the wrong forum. Anyway, I like Movie Collector from collectorz.com, though it's not an online one per se like DVD Aficianado or Profiler. You can upload custom HTML from the program up to your own website, if you so desire, though.

Over the past several years, I've used DVDTracker, DVDAficionado and DVDProfiler, but the best one I've found is the one I'm using now, DVDSpot.

beat me to it. i use microsoft Excel as well. you can just type the name of the title (put a pic beside it if you wan't-thats what i do). dvd profiler doesn't have some of the dvds listed that i have and its to time consuming for me, i have slow fucking internet.
its the fastest way in my opinion.
id rather be watching my dvds than cataloging them all the time.

Two more words: Mac only. Doesn't bother me, since I'm a Mac guy, but Windows users will need MediaMan, which is virtually identical.

On a different approach I use the Escient DVD Movie manager connected via a sony 400 disc dvd changer and has the ability to hook up 2 more changers for a total of 1200 disc catalog.

Now obviously this is not cheap by any means but if you have the means its awesome!

Just a different thought.

Yeah, I'm not 100% familiar with the particulars of that system, but a setup like that does go the extra step in allowing you to play your DVDs from the interface, as opposed to just looking them up and finding them on a shelf. Kind expensive, though.

Yea Mike you are 100% correct but it's sooooo cool Also gives you all movie info and synopsis cover art.

Its about a $3000 setup l'm lucky however I work in the industry so I got it for $900.

Is there a program with a similar interface as Mediaman/Delicious Library? I like the digital shelf to view the collection, but I don't wanna drop 40$

I also second on using dvdspot. it will even list your top director, actor, and producer.
