Old School Ninja Turtles in Season Sets FINALLY!!!

They're starting where they left off with the volumes, but that's cool for whoever has been buying the volumes every release (like I was).

TMNT Season 4: good news and bad news
http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=6746
They are switching over to season sets. I knew this would happen all along. I wish they had just done this from the start. I prefer things to be consistent. Now, my old one disc releases will look funny next to the new season sets. Also, I hope that turtle head doesn't stick out as far as it looks like.

Excellent. This makes me very happy. I stopped buying after volume 2 when I saw how they were going to be released. Hopefully they will rerelease S3 in a nice set. If not, I'll make my own.
And since it's 5 discs, it looks like they won't be stuffing as many eps on each disc, so maybe video and audio will be a little better.

I did a search before I made the thread and it didn't come up. Maybe because you don't have "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" or "TMNT" in the title.
***Edit: Come to think of it, I searched for "tmnt", then "ninja turtles". That's weird that it didn't come up then. Yeah, I just tried it again with "ninja turtles" and it doesn't come up. So don't get mad at me. At the time I even checked the first page or two of dvd talk and there wasn't anything. Sorry.

I used to watch the show but didn't see all of them apparently since I got Vol 1 & the bonus episodes were horrible & a whole style I never saw before. When did the show go from Shredder to the other main villians. The whole animation got really cheap looking and the voices changed. Why did Mikey only have a rope w/hook for a weapon?

I stopped watching Ninja Turtles long before the series actually ended, but that show was on for the air longer than I think most realize. Those bonus episodes were from the eleventh season that aired in 1996. I can't comment on the "style" or villains but Michelangelo had to get a new weapon because apparently you can't show nunchuks on U.K. television.

I may get this, though to be honest I haven't even got Vol 3, 4, 5 and 6 yet, and the third season (1989) was the latest season I saw in the UK AFAIK, on its original run.
I do remember an episode from Season 4 (?) called "Splinter Vanishes" broadcast in the US when Solinter tells the Turtles he is no longer their master, in a "Take Me To Your Leader" type episode.

i think they were looking to sell more action figures. and the above is correct, as UK tv wasn't having it.

Wikipedia entry on Shredder
In the season 8 episode Turtle Trek, the Turtles destroy the engines of the Technodrome, trapping it and its inhabitants in Dimension X for good and putting an end to Shredder's plans (for most fans, Shredder's removal as a regular villain was the point where the show jumped the shark).
Upon TMNT's first arrival in the United Kingdom, the name was changed to "Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles" (or TMHT, for short), since local censorship policies deemed the word ninja to have excessively violent connotations for a children's program. Consequently, everything related to the Turtles had to be renamed before being released in the UK. The lyrics were also changed, such as changing "Splinter taught them to be ninja teens" to "Splinter taught them to be fighting teens."
The policies also had other effects, such as removing Michelangelo's nunchaku (which were at the time banned from appearing in even 18-rated movies) and generally toning down the usage of all the turtles' weapons. After many seasons of never using his nunchaku, they eventually disappeared entirely, replaced by a turtle shell shaped grappling hook called the "Turtle Line".
By the time of the 2003 TV series, these censorship policies had been abolished, and no changes have occurred in the content of the show. The name "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" remained unchanged for the 2003 show. As a result, in the UK, the 1987 program is still called Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles and the 2003 program is called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

And why are nunchaku considered "excessively" violent, but not Leonardo's swords or Shredder's "armor of blades"?
