Buy the Ultimate Bond sets now or wait for Blu-rays?
Just got back from seeing Casino Royale and we loved every minute of it. Got me back in Bond mood and now I'm in a quandry regarding upgrading my discs. Should I take advantage of the DDD sale and pick up the Ultimate Bond sets for $45 each or wait for the Blu-Rays? It's pretty much guaranteed that Casino Royale will be out on Blu-Ray, but what about the others?

I bought them now, think it may be awhile before they hit BD... even when they do, there's certainly no guarantee you'll get all the great extras. If the BDs do come loaded, the current SD box sets are so reasonably priced that I think you can move them without taking too much of a loss.

I went ahead and got both sets during release week and have been very happy with them. The restoration is amazing. Even though they all received new high-def transfers, I'm not so sure they will debut with Casino Royale next Spring. And if they do, I think these would be released separately over a period of time. I hope so because I don't want A View to a Kill in HD. Don't think I could handle seeing Grace Jones in 1080p.

I picked up the sets at DDD since it was too good a deal to pass up for the DTS tracks, even though I already had the 2000 version of most of them. I'll cherry pick the Blu-rays as they come out, since I really don't LOVE all the Bonds and I doubt we'll be paying DDD prices for them when they do come out. Blu-rays I'll pick up for sure: Casino Royale, Goldeneye, For Your Eyes Only, Spy Who Loved Me, Octopussy & Goldfinger.

I'm waiting. I think we will get, at least, one box set by this spring. The Bond flicks were one of the first releases for DVD. I know there have been a lot of changes at MGM since then, but I still think we are going to see them soon.

I was thinking about trading in my old sets and getting the new ones, BUT I bet they will be released within a year on BD.
I bet they are ready to go right now and they are just waiting on BD50s.
Maybe we will see some when Casino Royale is released??

I'm keeping my old sets til they are on BD. No point in an interim purchase which would just suck out some more money for little reason. I'd probably say the same thing if I didn't own any Bond right now. (pfft, yeah, like I might not own some Bond already)
Wasn't the DDD sale over before this thread started?

The DDD has been extended to the 23rd to match the 20% off sale that DVD Planet started.

I sold my old sets a while ago for this....
IMHO the transfers on this "Ultimate" box are, well, ULTIMATE. Upscaled to 720p and projected at 10'... these transfers are remarkably beautiful.
Plus they're cheap with all the sales going on and, as an HD-DVD supporter, I could be waiting a LOOOONG time for Bond. Or I can just have them now.

I have the entire series from the original special edition releases. That is why I passed on the current sets. I plan to pick up just my favorites in HD format.

I just watched the new Goldfinger this weekend and it looks amazing. Really stunning.
As everyone has said, this is a tough call for BD owners. No one knows when these are going to come out and if they'll include the amazing pile of extras that each film currently has. I vote buy now, assuming you're actually going to watch/enjoy the DVDs sometime in the next few months. If they're just going to sit on the shelf, you might as well wait.

I can guarantee you that all of the Bond films will be released in High Def eventually. I can wait.

OK, I've decided to wait for the Blu-Ray's. Even with the DD sale, I'm still looking at $200+ for the double dips. Hopefully they will release them individually on BR next year.

SD Discs that are "popular" titles, and aren't in my collection... won't be. I'll wait for the inevitable Hi-Def releases.

Hmm...I noticed that there are a few Bonds coming out individually in February. Wonder if we'll see some nice Blu-Ray versions of these announced at CES? My patience may have paid off!
