i think it will make money this week but Xmen 3 will top it.... X-men is on track to top the $200 million mark next week...

Giving this a PG-13 rating has me staying away, as I know it will hinder Vaughn's style. Unless I go with some friends, I doubt I'll catch this one.

Then your paper is the oddball. Ebert writes for the Chicago Sun Times on a four-star system. If your paper bastardizes that original article and ranking, shame on them.

Thanks but I am not a complete dumbass. I am looking at the review right now...count 'em ** out of ***** for The Break-up. That would be two filled in stars with three blank stars.

Same paper today, it has his review of The Devil and Daniel Johnston and he gave a rating of *** out of *****.

Maybe it is changed for syndication? Either way it is a poor review for The Break-Up.

Yeah, I certainly believe what you're saying, but I've read Ebert's reviews in at least 10+ papers while traveling and I've always seen 4 stars. It's surprising, I'm curious if you've ever seen a 5 star Ebert rating? I assume it's going to skew all the reviews down by about 20%, I'd send him an email, he's usually pretty good about responding to those kind of issues.

Actually his last 5 star review that was in the paper that I can swear to was The New World. There have been a couple of others as well as some 4 1/2 stars. I want to say United 93 was given 5 as well. I may shoot him an email for curiosity's sake.

I think my paper (Atlanta Journal Constitution) gave it a C or C-. I can't believe no other "biggee" film wanted any part of the X3 aftermath week. This doesn't seem to be the right time for "The Break-Up" sort of film, either, it feel more like a fall film.

Wow, this Break Up thread got hijacked into an "Ebert's star system - WTF? Thread". Anyway...

Saw the Break Up... didn't really like it. It has it's moments of both comedy and some good drama, but overall, the movie is very uneven and for the most part, DULL. Supporting cast is wasted with nothing parts given to extremely talented actors, Aniston and Vaughn don't seem to be doing much of anything either in the movie... it just kind of trucks along from point A to point B in an unsatisfying way.

I know the marketing has made the film look "lighter" than it actually is, but in all honesty, I had more fun with the trailer than I did with the actual film. It was alright, but with the talent involved it should have been a homerun and the first great comedy of the summer...opening weekend should be good, but word of mouth will sink this one.

I am one of the few who think Down With Love is actually a quirky romantic comedy that works as a great throwback to the comedies of the fifties, but I know I'm in the group of five who thinks that.

I'm a fan of Reed simply after Down With Love and Bring It On, a stupid cheerleader comedy brought to entirely new levels, so I was hoping for the best with this film. Especially with Jon Brion doing the score.

I'll check it out tonight...

I didn't care for the films heavy one sided views. Vince's character is pretty much the only one in the relationship that is causing all the problems. It's really tailor made for females. A typical chick flick.

Count me in with the people who liked Down with Love. I actually had the poster on my wall for a few months after the dvd release. I doubt i'll be seeing this though, unless my wife talks me into a date movie night. If not, it'll be worth the rental.

Just saw this and thought it was very blah. The only thing I knew about the movie going in was what I saw in the TV spots - and, as mentioned, it's pretty mismarketed.

Even the score by Jon Brion (whose work I love) is nothing special.

I will say that it's nice to see Joey Lauren Adams again, as well as the reteaming of Vaughn and Favreau (though that one's pretty much for nostalgia reasons, as they weren't all that exceptional in this film).

I like Down With Love, too, which must make me #4.
