Here And There

I always liked Sharif Atkins as Gallant. Good ep - It was a welcome change of pace, although I kept thinking Gallant was going to bite the big one towards the end because he let the sergeant use that damn satellite phone.

The intercutting between the parallel storylines between Neela and Gallant was done well enough to keep the flow and tension of each subplot going.
I'm a sucker for stories that use letters to sustain a deepening of love between 2 people, and this episode succeeded in conveying the strong emotional bond that has developed between Neela and Gallant in the months since he left Chicago.
I thought Parminder's acting was really good, especially in that short brief scene when she picks up the phone and it's Gallant, and her subtle facial expressions showed the multitude of reactions that had to be bursting within Neela, ranging from relief to internal giddiness to hope.
This was one of the better episodes this season.

probably the best episode this year, mainly due to the parts in Iraq. so is gallant escorting the girl all the way to county or just to the C130? hopefully he'll be on next week to show the girl getting to chicago

I thought this was a pretty good episode - I liked the way the dialogue switched back and forth from Neela to Gallant, the way they finished each others thoughts.

i really like how this show, which is so established after so many years, still takes such chances with the narratives- whether it be episodes that focus on a single character, or ones like this that take a more experimental approach to storytelling. even when they dont quite work, i respect the fact that they constantly want to keep things fresh. i guess since all the actors are so good and the filmmaking so well done, they can afford to try and pull these kinds of episodes off, where other shows wouldnt even take the chance.
yeah this was a particularly good episode. i thought that scene where Neela was about to have sex with that guy, intercut with Gallant trying to save the soldier, all while the sound of the flatline muffled out the sound on both...really haunting.
are girls in the army really as attractive as those 2 that were in Gallant's tent with him?

Really good episode. But then any episode that spotlights Neela is good in my book.
I took it that Gallant was just escorting the girl to the C-130, but if he's signed up for 2 eps, maybe he will show up at county.
Medical question: Would a person REALLY be conscious while their hands are being sewn back on? Don't know about anyone else, but that's definitely NOT something I'd prefer to be awake for. Maybe they need you awake so when they reconnect a ligament they can ask you to try and wiggle your finger?

I know what you mean. I was eating an orange as the episode started, and a few minutes in... well, let's just say I didn't care to finish my snack.

I thought this was one of the most boring and disappointing episodes of the season thus far. I just didn't care for the "change of pace" that this episode tried to give the show.

I thought this episode was pretty good but the thing I don't like about this season is the constant episodes that focus on one character and that character is usually a guest star.
The writers do a better job writing for the guest stars than they do their main characters. The main characters relationships suck. Abby, Carter, Susan, Luka, Sam. When was the last time any of them had a meaningful talk with each other.
I've watched this show from the beginning and what got me interested was the ensemble.

Just realized that this was the 3rd M*A*S*H-like episode they've done this season:
Abbey getting kidnapped by gangbangers to heal an injured one/Hawkeye captured by North Koreans to heal and injured one
Showing the ER from stroke patient's point of view/showing 4077th from wounded soldier's point of view
And now Gallant writing a "Day in the life" letter to Neela/Hawkeye writing "day in the life letter to his dad.
Is someone from M*A*S*H's staff working on ER now?
