Will Lions Gate keep their word on High Tension(NC-17 release) or not?

With the release date pushed back to June and the official website stating 'not yet rated',despite being officially NC-17 on www.filmratings.com.

Do you think Lions Gate will keep their word and release the film with an NC-17? They keep telling us too 'not worry' and that they have 'no intentions' of cutting the film. Yet speculation abounds.

I certainly hope so. I've been dying to see this flick.

Lions Gate is a pretty solid studio, so I'll go with yes!

perhaps its held up because of the fuss over it being a blatant rip-off of Dean Koontz's Intensity?

Who cares if its released nc-17, it blows a fattie, i downloaded this without english subs which really didnt hinder the viewing at all because there are like 5 lines in the movie, just a bunch of running around. not scarry nor tense.

I don't think they'll cut the movie. I imagine Lion's Gate will release this movie NC-17. I also imagine they'll release it in a few theaters, never give it a full run cause lots of theaters won't carry it or advertise for it, and basically then be sent to DVD.

Supposedly, despite the NC-17 rating, Lions Gate wants to get it in as many theaters as possible (that will show the flick).

That wouldn't be a problem in Vegas as both Regal Cinemas and Century Theaters have shown NC-17 and Unrated flicks before.

It's a niche release as it is, so I'm unsure. However, I see no reason why they won't stand by their commitment.

Perhaps they're trying to lobby for an R? You never know, it is a niche release. I honestly don't know how this film will play with US audiences... it's foreign, it's subtitled, and the plot's full of holes. I enjoyed the film quite a bit, but by no means is it high art... well, maybe; the visuals are fantastic...

Also... can we get the "cool" taken away from EEz28's title? Doesn't seem apt. Thanks.

First, Brizz, did u see the movie beyond people's initial complaints about it being an Intensity ripoff? While it starts off as so it does go way off of what Koontz wrote. Donnachaone, its no mroe a niche film than anything else released, As for the subtitle issue, Hero made a decent amount with subs, and its not like this movie has a tremendous amount of dialogue, a dubbed version wouldnt be that horrific I believe. As for plotholes, this doesnt have as many as Darkness or any other horror movie out there.

Hell, White Noise had a gazillion plot holes, and look at that flick. Made $24 million it's opening weekend.

No offense taken, EE.

Harosa - Hero had the crutch of great reviews, an action star known in the USA and very little competition. I don't see that happening with Haute.

as long as they release the movie on DVD uncut, I don't really mind what they do with it in theaters.

Same here. Honestly I wouldn't blame them if they can't get a wide release of the NC-17 version. There's so many hurdles they'll have getting this into 2000plus theaters with that rating that it'll be mighty tough. Especially with a french subtitled horror film that I doubt has much of a chance to be a big box office hit.

DVD is where it's at, one of the reasons I can live with Romero releasing a R rated version of Land of the Dead in the theaters, knowing that we'll get his uncut version later on.

While that usually may be the case with other studios today. Lions Gate is abit different now, than they used too be.

If a film is cut to get an R rating today. The uncut version stands very little chance of being released on dvd. If it is released on dvd,it will be a few years away.

SAW being the most recent example. The most graphic material was cut to avoid an NC-17(about 2 minutes worth). It was released uncut in the U.K.,meanwhile the U.S dvd release will be the R rated version only.

The Toolbox Murders also suffers under the knife. Some gruesome bits were cut to avoid an NC-17,but the uncut footage will be included as an extra feature only(so kiss chances of an unrated dvd goodbye). Meanwhile it was released uncut in other countries!

They still have'nt come through on releasing the unrated version of Return of the Living Dead 3. The R rated 'special edition'(which is heavily cut) was released in 2001. I talked to someone from Lions Gate a few years ago and they said it was being planned possibly for 2003 and would be unrated. It's now 2005 and it still has not happened.

So if High Tension is cut to get an R rating. It will stand little chance of an unrated/uncut release here in the U.S.,for who knows how long(they may release it uncut eventually, but the wait could be very long!).

Meanwhile Sex & Lucia was released unrated theatrically, then a cut R rated version was created for dvd. But the uncut version was also released.

I don't understand why they can't do the same for films(heavily) cut to get R ratings theatrically?

So this is one reason to be concerned IF they do decide to cut the film to an R rating.

Geez, the film STILL isn't out in the US yet? It's literally rotting at this point. It's been, what, 2 years since its international debut? I'm surprised this isn't a Miramax release.

I'd guess an R-rated cut.
