Are there any HD-DVDs?
This may seem like a stupid question but what does this mean?:

Mastered in High Definition basically means that the DVD was mastered from a High Definition source. Meaning there was a high definition version of the movie and that the DVD was made from that.

Exactly, most (or all) studios are doing this, not only for the best possible picture, but also for when we do start getting actual HD DVDs, they don't have to remaster the movie again.

There are some DVDs that contain the regular movie as well as the movie in HD resolution, such as T2 - Extreme and Standing In The Shadows of Motown. You need a computer to play them though.

Found a long but helpful AVS forum explanation on this recently myself
But heck, if you are going to buy an HDTV-ready TV and "high definition" DVD discs, then you certainly don't want to screw up the vibe by playing them on an old "progressive" player. You want a high-tech, high definition, "up-scaling" player! Just in case you've lost track here, the content on the DVDs is *STILL* only 480i in all this.
