Monk 07/09 - "Mr. Monk and the Blackout"

Someone keeps setting bombs in a local power station, causing blackouts.

The case tonight was secondary to the fact that Monk goes out on a date with the hot p.r. director of the power company. He takes her to a nice restaurant with a view, but the elevator doesn't stop even with the floor so they walk up 52 flights of stairs. Coming down in the elevator, a blackout, of course Monk unravels. "Lobbylobbylobbylobby!"

Nice homage to Captain Stottlemeyer's old movie, SotL, with Monk running around the house in night-vision goggles.

An almost unrecognizable Judge Reinhold makes a guest appearance.

Stupid USA

I usually catch the repeat of this on Friday night at 11 here but they had track & field on instead. Now I have to remember to catch it during the week.

If the 11 pm repeat isn't on, check Saturday at 11am.

I caught it this morning(missed the first 15 minutes)

I thought it was good

The nightvision goggles scene was funny as was the date.

My whole family was cracking up during Friday nights show.

I could tell from the shadow of the guy who set the bomb during the 1st few minutes of the show. My fam hates it when I tell them who did and why.

This episode really brought the funny. I almost fell off the couch when Monk was using the cards during his phone call to the power company PR lady (Alicia Coppola was looking mighty fine in this episode). Their date was also pure classic Monk comedy. This was a return to form for Monk.

I loved the Pictionary game: "a line ... a crooked line ... a line that should be more straight ... two lines ... two uneven lines ... two crooked, uneven lines ... it's a disturbingly asymmetrical shape!"

Also good to see the lovely Alicia Coppola (aka "Leeeeeza"). I enjoyed her on American Dreams.

das

After several rather disappointing episodes, I felt this was a return to classic Monk. Both the pictionary and flash cards had me

the flash cards were great, especially the fact that the Trudi pile was huge and he had such a hard time with Texas.

And the tall stack was front and center. I was waiting for Monk to go non-stop through the whole pile after that one question.

From Stottlemeyer: "Disher, did you read the whole file?"

And the final "Lobby, lobby, lobby, lobby...."

I agree that this is a welcome return to classic Monk after the first two disappointing over-the-top episodes. Judge was the tree-hugger, right?

My favorite part was the roses...

"I got you a dozen roses"
"where are the rest"
"they were....................... different"

I somehow didnt like it. Also somehow guessed who the culprit was when the guy first came on the screen.

That's hardly unusual. This show is always more about the "how" than the "who". The one who did it is usually pretty easy to figure out in the first 10 minutes.

I guess I haven't been paying attention as this was the first time I'd seen Alicia Coppola in anything since Remote Control. She looks better now than she did then.

Decent episode if only for Monk trying to go on a date. Very big step. Tony Shalhoub is so great at those moments of sad vulnerability.
