Ghostbusters 20th Anniversary DVD Coming

According to said Premiere Magazine article:

"Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment's 20th Anniversary DVD of Ghostbusters will be available in October."

I just hope they include the Ray Parker Jr. Music video.

I think I read somewhere that Bill and Harold weren't on speaking terms since Groundhog's Day.

Don't know if it's true or not..

I think the present release is very nice, but I'm happy to hear that there's an anniverary edition coming out. I'd like to see the deleted scenes.

Interesting.

I, too, am quite happy with the current release (commentary is one of the most interesting and humorous ones I have ever heard). The deleted scenes are included in the current release as well, so I don't know what else they could possibly come up with (save for the music video).

I am a fan of this film, and would double dip if there was anything new included.

In a recent thread, it was mentioned that there are additional deleted scenes that weren't on the other release.

Ghostbusters Extreme edition?

and I am sure the film could have a nice 3 hours documentary about it, but with not a single bit of input from Bill Grumpy old fart Murry!

Weren't there additional deleted scenes mentioned on the current disc?

I'm not a big fan of static features or DVD-ROM stuff, but I would like to see Aykroyd's original (mega-long) script.

That's pretty cool, thanks for the info! I guess I'll wait until all the specs are announced to see if the commentary is on the new disc. If it is then I'm going to get rid of my old copy, otherwise I'm keeping it since it's a really good one.

Nice, although i agree with others that the current release is already very good. What we really need is a better version of Ghostbusters 2.

Now there is a movie I would gladly double dip if it has alot of new stuff on it. Maybe GB2 will get a more decent release as well. Maybe we can get free ectoplasm with every copy.

GB2 I was quite dissapointed in. Great film, and yet a bare bones release. It wouldn't have surprised me as much had the original gotten a bare bones release as well, but with the SE of the first, I would expect a similar result of the sequal since it was nearly all the same crew (i.e. director, producer, writers, and of course, actors). At the very minimum, a commentary would have been nice.

For some reason I still haven't bought Ghostbusters, so now I guess I'll wait a little longer and see how the new version is.

I don't have the current version, so I'll probably pick this up. My current wish list is getting slim, so I need some movies to add to it.

No - I can 100% assure you that whatever the new disc is called, it will NOT be Ghostbusters Extreme Edition. The potential for marketing confusion would be too great:

Now if only they would hurry up and release the Real Ghostbusters, then all would be right with the world.

Columbia/Tristar is amazing - they've got dozens and dozens of barebones classics in their catalogue, and they decide to double-dip on one that already has a lot of good extras. I'll pass.

AMEN! Where is the Karate Kid SE, where is Neighbors? Ghostbusters is a great release already, so are several of the ones they went back and made superbit!

Josh was referring to the fact that in addition to the deleted scenes shown on the first dvd, there are more deleted scenes that have appeared on laserdiscs in the past.

While I'm really looking forward to this as a huge Ghostbusters fan, I can definately see where marty888 is coming from. It's great that they're re-releasing one of my favorite movies, but at the same time, the first release was already better than many of Columbia Tristars other barebones titles. If they're going to re-release Ghostbusters, then they should also go back and re-release some of the other titles in their catalogue.

Argh, I just bought the Ghostbusters DVD around February. Maybe someone I know will get the new version so I can see any new features.

And yes, I would love to see Karate Kid SE. I have the first release but I would really like to see a widescreen version of it.

I'm perfectly happy with the current Ghostbusters DVD. I don't see myself upgrading to this new disc.

Happy with the current disc. I'll be passing on this one.
