Spinoff: Your top 10 DVDs for the year

Mods if you want to merge w/ this one http://dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread....hreadid=336786 please do... I thought an individual thread might get more attention though

So what are your top 10 DVD picks for the year? Based on whatever system you want to use

Mine (in no particular order really) woud be:

Aliens Quadrilogy
Two Towers Extended
Stargate SG-1 season 4
Kurosawa limited edition boxset (that was this year right )
Looney Tunes Golden Collection
Sandbaggers Set 3 (finally good to have them all )
Black Hawk Down (3 DVD set)
Finding Nemo
Shogun
X-Men/X2 box set

I'm sure I'm overlooking some but it was getting kind of hard to remember which ones came out this year

The Ultimate Ric Flair collection 3 disc set
Black Hawk Down 3 disc set
Alien Quad (although the 3rd and 4th films are not good)
Indiana Jones
Looney Tunes Golden
LOTR TT:EE (not a fanboy but how can you deny the excellence)
Once Upon A Time In The West
The Rolling Stones: Four Flicks
Pearl Jam: Live at the Garden
Led Zeppelin
* honorable mention to the Halloween 25th anniversary edition simply for the fact it was nice to finally hear the Criterion collection commentary after all these years.

1)Fear and Loathing (Criterion)
Perfect commentaries, cover-art, documentaries, everything!

2)TTT:EE
Made a good film GREAT, good documentaries (but not as goodas Fellowship's

3)Alien Quadrilogy
Stunning transfer on Alien, another Cameron commentary (always a good thing), Interesting look at the making of the horrible Alien 3, and damn my internet respectability, but Ressurection is a DAMN FUN MOVIE Too bad the set is flimsy

4)Indiana Jones Collection
Nice transfers, but this set, much like Back to The Future Trilogy, only ranks high for the movies themselves, and not the extras.

5)Black Hawk Down
Not a GREAT film, but a good film given a GREAT DVD treatment.

6)Mr. Show Season Three
Although a lot of sketches from previous seasons got recycled here, there is no doubt this is the funniest DVD I own

7)Family Guy Volume One
Some of the best replay value I have had in any of my DVDs...

8)Terminator 3
Really fun movie with a solid transfer. Good sound, decent commentaries (I wish Cameron had done one)

9)XMEN 2
Probably would have been "8" if I wasn't such a Terminator fanboy.

10)Finding Nemo
Is there really any doubt that Pixar is not only the most talented animators today, but story tellers as well?

Damn, Mountain Biker. You just made me realize I forgot to include The Sure Thing. My other other other holy grail. Oh well, my list can go to 11, can't it? Especially for a movie directed by Rob Reiner.

I think the best release this year was the Warner Legends box set....The Adventures of Robin Hood is probably the best release of all.

I can't name only 10 of them!!! I've bought 39 DVD's which were released in 2003, and seeing as I'm fairly selective in what I purchase I am not unhappy with any of them. The top 10 though - no, just can't do it! Sorry!

Merry Christmas!

My Top-Ten List for 2003:

The Adventures of Indiana Jones: The Complete DVD Movie Collection (Widescreen)
Casablanca: Two-Disc Special Edition
The Chaplin Collection 1
(despite the PAL transfers)
Coupling: The Complete First Season
Family Guy: Volume One: Seasons 1 and 2
Fassbinder's BRD Trilogy: Criterion Collection
The Looney Tunes Golden Collection
Once Upon a Time in the West: Collector's Edition
Rocky & Bullwinkle & Friends: Complete Season 1
(despite the watermarks)
Warner Legends Collection

(I was going to do a list of honorable mentions for my personal "holy grails" that came out on DVD this year,
but there were, thankfully, just too many.)

In no particular order:
  • Casablanca: Two Disc SE
  • The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers: Extended Edition
  • Terminator 2: Extreme Edition (For one reason: The High-Def version included.)
  • Firefly: The Complete Series (A masterpiece)
  • Adventures of Indiana Jones
  • Alien Quadrilogy
  • Cartoon Network DVDs (Space Ghost/Aqua Teen. Paving the path for Sealab and the Brak Show to be released.)
  • Pirates of the Caribbean and ANY other movie released in OAR only. It's about time more major releases did this.
  • X-Men Collection (Don't own it yet, since DDD sent me the FS version when I ordered WS. See above.)
  • The Dead Zone: First Season (Love the show. Sending away for the unaired pilot was a pita, and it took months. But it's the only TV show on DVD I own to include something as intriguing as an unaired pilot with different cast members. Look forward to more releases including such features, minus mailing away for them)
