The Truman Show: Would anyone be interested in a SE?
This is one of my favorite films of all time, yet the current DVD release of it is...well...empty. I am called insane all of the time, and go ahead and do it here as well, but I feel that Jim Carey could eventually be molded into a very legitimate dramatic actor. What with this film, Man On the Moon, The Majestic, and now Bruce Almighty (why not a SE of any of these films as well) he has shown me that he can mix his sort of comedic antics with some pretty damn good dramatic acting.
Anyway, I really want a SE to be released of The Truman Show. I'd love to hear everyone talking about the film, what all went on durring the shoot, and much more on a few commentary tracks. I'd love to see some extra scenes, and heck, I just want more.
Is there any word on this at all being possible?

Hey, if There's Something About Mary can get a huge SE release, why not The Truman Show. This movie convinced me that Jim Carrey is actually talented beyond "the talking butt".
I'm still hoping for a Fire Marshall Bill movie someday.

Yeah, I'd love to see one as well. It's one of my favorite movies of all time. What gets me is the VHS release had a "bonus" feature on it, some kind of short documentary type thing (didn't see it, being on an inferior format and all) and was very disappointed the Truman Show DVD didn't at least have that.

I remember there was a wealth of unreleased material for the film that they cut out that sounded amazing. from IMDB:
I know they filmed a great deal of footage with the actors developing their backstories. The only one I remember is Truman's best friend sufferred from drug addictiona nd left the show for awhile. Sounded like interesting stuff.

A lot more pseudo-documentary footage on the making of the fictional Truman Show was shot but not used in the theatrical version. Only some short segments have been included in the released film, in the pre-credits sequence. Segments of this outtake footage, featuring Merryl Burbank and Marlon being interviewed and talking about their roles on the show and their personal lives, have been included in some airline versions, presumably to pad the running times.
Various trailers included scenes that were deleted from the theatrical and DVD releases: A cast read-through (a sign on the wall warns "ATTENTION: 1. REMOVE CELLPHONES. 2. NO SCRIPTS ON SET. 3. NO I.D. CARDS ON SET"); a visible tear in the "sky" after a stage light falls on the "street" in front of Truman's house; Truman singing the Planet Trumania anthem.

I would love it, one my favorite films and worst DVDs.
You are right about the VHS, paramount released a bunch of vhs with special features last year, but not on the DVD version, Varsisty Blues is another title where the VHS had some extras

... anythings better than Warner's current bare-bones P&S release, that's for sure.

Absolutely--this was one of my favorite films from 1998, and I can only hope that we can get a SE with all sorts of extras--I'd love to see a commentary with Carrey and Weir, and maybe a commentary track with the actors as their "characters". That would be very interesting indeed.

No, the current release of the Truman Show is in non-anamorphic widescreen. He was referring to the movie "Fearless" when talking about pan and scan.
A special edition of The Truman Show is one of my most wanted dvd's. I hate the non-anamorphic transfer. I rented it and was not pleased.

Jim Carrey should have gotten alot more acclaim for this role. I'd like an SE, possibly even a longer cut would be nice.

People, let's be realistic here. The DVD was released by Paramount. Here is a list of every DVD they have ever re-released in an upgraded version:
Star Trek II - The Wrath of Kahn
Star Trek III - The Search for Spock
Star Trek IV - The Voayage Home
The Hunt for Red October
Patriot Games
Clear and Present Danger
That's it. If it's not a franchise, they don't seem to have any interest in redoing their early titles. I hope that will change (among the many other titles I'd like to see them redo are Heaven Can Wait, Private Parts, Grease, Top Gun and Witness) but for now, I wouldn't hold my breath.
