Breakfast Club, 16 Candles, Weird Science - SEPT 2

dvdfile.com
The holy grail of the cinema du John Hughes - Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Weird Science - is finally ready to be unleashed on September 2nd from Universal Studios Home Video. As the disciples of the pied piper of 80's teen cinema already know all too well, the long hoped-for reissues of these flicks have already been announced once and then postponed, so will this time be the charm? Let's hope so, and although full specs have not yet been announced, each will be newly remastered in anamorphic widescreen with Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 surround tracks, plus trailers. Retail will be $19.95 each, or $39.95 for a 3-disc Brat Pack set. Stay tuned...

I'm glad I bought the original Sixteen Candles release. The $50+ I got for it on Ebay will easily pay for the three pack. Hopefully they can restore the original soundtracks. The tv scenes would be cool as well.

Awesome news! Although I already own The Breakfast Club (favorite movie EVER), I'll definitely pick up that 3-pack for the improved transfers and soundtracks.

And yes, 80's movies most definitely rule

Oh great... yet another $40 I am going to have to spend in September... I swear I may have to mortgage my house if this continues. My DVD wish list for the month is now pushing $250.

Great news. It doesn't sound like there will be any commentary tracks, but I just listened to Hughes's commentary on "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and it was really good. Made me pine for The Breakfast Club and 16 Candles - Glad I waited now to pick these up.

Does anyone know if Sixteen Candles will have the original theatrical soundtrack? I seem to remember that it caused a legal mess over the song rights when it was first released on home video back in the 80s. Has this been resolved?

And will the same go for Weird Science? I remember seeing it at the theater and "Pretty Woman" played when Kelly Le Brock appeared at the mall. Only to have the song replaced by the "Weird Science" title track when it arrived on video and TV.

I can't wait for these either.

Also looking forward to another eighties movie, Bright Lights, Big City, in early August.

Very cool. There is a store here in Nashville that is selling used"Sixteen Candles" DVDs for $40.00 because it is currently out of print. Next time I go in, I'll inform them of the re-release. Pricks.
