Narc -- Ray Liotta, Jason Patric
Wider release January 10.
I saw this last week at a (really early) preview showing. It's a cop 'n' drug movie, which I typically don't like. But it is very, very well acted -- Ray Liotta, Jason Patric, hell, the whole cast is really believable.
Of course, it'll get creamed by everything else opening up in December, but I'm just throwing out a positive review to get a little buzz going (very little, probably). See The Two Towers, see Star Trek, whatever, but sneak this in somewhere too if it's in your area.
Anyone else seen it?

I saw the trailer for it. Looks interesting, but they seem to give too much away in the trailer. I like Jason Patric, though, and he seems like he rarely turns up in films, well since Speed 2 anyway. He was great in Sleepers though.

Narc -- A question. Spoilers within.
First, let me say this movie was E X C E L L E N T.
Now onto my question...
At the end of the flick, when Oak is giving Tellis his deathbed confession, he says that Mike fired repeatedly as Beery & his buddy as they ran out of the tunnel.
NOW...
Did the flashback show Mike firing until his gun emptied? If so, that would not jibe with Oak saying that Mike killed himself.
Right?

Yes, this was a really intense drug/cop thriller.
The opening scene was so jolting I almost threw up.
Patric and Liotta are top notch in NARC.
I'd highly recommend this movie.
Whoever this new guy is that directed the film, I really like his style in doing so. The split screen was cool as well.

Really good movie... strong performances by Liotta and Patric. After seeing Joe Carnahan's BMWFilm Ticker, I really wanted to see this and wasn't disappointed. I don't think it was a particularly original story and it reminded me of a sort of harder edged cross between tv's Boomtown and The Shield.

All the while I was watching this, I was thinking, this could be a tv show, and devilshalo I agree with your comparison.
What made it stand out though was the performances of both liotta and Patric, Liotta I like, but not a lot, Patric after Your Friends and Neighbors I love. They guy is awesome, and apart from Speed, he seems to pick meaty roles.
Definitely worth seeing, the visual style was a bit interesting okay, and I will certainly see carnahan's next film
IMDB has him listed for 2
Walk Among the Tombstones, A with harrison ford to start shooting in Feb 03
Killing Pable, for which he again according to imdb is working on the script, the book for killing pablo is by the same guy who wrote black hawk down

You know, the comparisons to tv might come from the fact that this is such a small film. I doubt it cost much more than your average episode of Boomtown or Nypd (the budget was 5 million dollars for NARC). Definately something I would like to check out.

I just saw this. It wasn't bad, the characters were believable, but it wasn't particularly good, either. Good performances, though. Overall it was too slow, I thought. I never really got tense or worried about the characters.

A nice little cop thriller, helped immensely by two confident leads and some nicely directed sequences. I didn't like how heavily the whole family angle was built up but then dropped for the "action-packed" last half-hour, which of course, cleans up every loose plot-strand, diluting the ambiguity.
But Narc was an enjoyable (if you can call it enjoy) movie.

I would like to catch this in the theaters. The only problem is the art cinemas aren't playing it, and our "big" cinema is currently playing such masterpieces as Kangaroo Jack and National Security...

I caught this over the weekend and I have to say that I thought it was a very intense movie. Mainly due to the great performances from Liotta and Patrick. I liked this movie a lot.
My friend was telling me that this movie supposedly was not going to be made, but Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner decided to fund it? Is there any truth to that? Just curious.

I read in New City a few weeks ago that they couldn't find distribution. It showed at Sundance, Cruise saw it and under the Cruise/Wagner banner inked a deal (with Lions Gate I believe).

Narc just got released here in the UK and I saw it the other day. it's just a brilliant movie. Great acting, story and directing. Really intense and gritty. Like a cross between LA Confidential and The Usual Suspects with a bit of Se7en thrown in too.
Like someone said above, it's just a shame that other movies at the moment and later along in the year will overshadow it.

I think it's one of the best films of 2002, and Paramount has put together a great DVD:

This is a must-buy disc for me tomorrow. I'll be trying to track down a 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea disc as well.
I swear, I'm just getting more and more excited about well mastered dvd's like Narc and wonderful classics like 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea and The Love Bug being released with great picture quality and wonderful extras.
It's a wonderful time to love dvd's! (But bad for my checking account.....yikes! 26 discs in the last month purchased!)
