Sweet, one of my favorite etailers that was.
I remember on Tuesdays trying to get a coupon right at midnight so the discount could be used on a new release.

Wow, they were the first e-tailer I ordered a DVD from. I can't remember the exact deal but I think it was buy one get one free (off a list of 5 or 10 DVDs.) Maybe it was a free DVD w/ $25 purchase. In any case I was astounded that I could get a DVD for 30% off, AND a freebie to boot. It lead me to search for other deals, that eventually led me here.
That was 1600+ DVDs ago.

I miss all of these old sites and their great coupons. While I didn't get in on the stock market during the dot com boom, I realized that it wouldn't last just by all of the amazing deals I got. Like they thought they would be able to build customer loyalty by offering incredible deals at the beginning.

Thanks for the memories, although remembering the coupons from that place (usually with a coupon a new DVD would be like, $5 - gotta love those $10 off $15 deals).
I ordered a metric buttload of discs from them "back in the day."
BigStar, DVD Express, Reel, DVD Wave (remember them? - I won the Oscar contest in 1999 and they went under just after that so I never got my two free DVDs that I won
)

When I picked up the new Jack Ryan set the other day, I went to change them in DVD tracker an saw that I had picked up HFRO, PG and CAPD from 800.com during the 3 for $1 deal (along with Batman, Bladerunner and Contact). I starting reminising of the days of reel.com and the awesome coupon deals that came up almost daily.
Truely a happier (well at least cheaper) time.

Those were definitely the good old days of dvd purchasing. I can't remember how many times I bought a movie that I had never seen before or that I didn't really need, but I had to use that $10 off coupon at reel.com before it expired!! I miss that!

There was also CDNow with their gift certificates and coupons floating around everywhere.

Reel.com was big for me and Bigstar was, too, until their shipping shot up.
Amazon certificates from surveys and whatnot.
Ahh...the ability to hit 300 DVDs and average about $8/DVD.

Actually I remember BigStar having terrible customer service. I hated this company and was thrilled to see them go under. The had a ton of complaints about their service.
Now Reel.com is the company responsible for about 200 or more of my DVDs and the company I really miss. Nothing like getting a DVD thats already 40% off, adding a $5 off coupon and paying for the rest with trivia credits.

Anyone else use the Vstore coupons? They had lousy prices, but you could set up a Vstore of your own to get an extra 15% off, and then they had a $10 off $20 coupon which brought the price down to around $7.00.
Of course, you could only use it once.
Or the Buy.com new customer coupons - for those with multiple credit cards they could use them more than once (since it kept track only of CC numbers, and not addresses).
Ah, the good ol' days.

I remember bigstar would have high prices - but the coupon would bring the prices into "deal" teritory.
I loved 800.com - 800 cents coupon, and what about the free popcorn

Jaboom, Firstlook, and Freeride every day.
And then the Freeride Magic Bus. Actually, I remember not being a member of Jaboom and they weren't accepting applications, so I made a deal with some cat to take over his account. That was sweet. I used to be extra-careful when rating because people always claimed they were closing accounts if you didn't rate the music right.
