I made 300!!!
Hi, there!
it's quite a milestone for me: 300 DVD's after 29 months of DVD collecting. I'm quite happy since the #300 is my first Kurosawa - Ran, Masterworks edition - the japanese director was maybe the most remarkable missing man in my collection.
Any of you remembers how much time you needed to reach #300? and which was the DVD?

Congrats! I'm working my way up to 300: I'm at 223 after 18 months of collecting and with all the cool stuff coming out in the fall, I'm bound to hit the 300 mark before Christmas. I seem to working on a 150 per year buying trend.

congrats on 300. I have a question. In order to count your dvd's, do you count each inidividual dvd (like 4 dvds in the FOTR EE) or do you just count each movie as one dvd. I have been trying to figure out what to do because I have many 2 disc sets, but I'm not sure if I should just count them as one. The same thing applies to tv sets like the twilight zone, since I have every twilight zone collection now. What to do.. hmm

I hit 300 about a month ago with, of all things, Johnny Mnemonic. That was a sad day.
As far as how to count them, since I use DVDProfiler, I just go by UPC. FotR Extended has 4 discs, but 1 UPC, so that counts as 1. With box sets, I add each individual disc, since they have their own UPC, but I also end up adding the box as well, which has a different UPC. I know that sort of pads the count a little, but it also distinguishes a box set from the individual DVDs in it. I spent $190 on the Cowboy Bebop Perfect Sessions box, when the discs inside could be had sans the box for about $100. Spending $90 on a cardboard box, I'm allowed to pad the count by 1.

Congrats. I made 121 not too long ago. Go me.
It was my second time getting back up to that number.
P.S. Only been collecting 4 years too.

Neways, my 300th DVD always changes cuz as I weed titles out of my collection, I'll move all DVDs with a higher collection # down. E.g. American Pie may be 100, but if I got rid of that, then DVD 101 would now be DVD 100, etc.
Currently my 300th DVD is One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest SE which I got on March 8th 2003 during the Best Buy deal (PMed to Circuit City). My real first 300th DVD was Band of Brothers which is now #298. I'm up to 373 DVDs owned with about 17 more on order. And I'm an addict cuz I've only been collecting for about 11 months or so. It's like a crack addiction, only not as bad.

All I remember is that when I hit 300 I was sure I had enough and wouldn't go much higher. Said the same thing at 400, then again at 500. Still isn't working.
Congrats on the milestone

I made 300 after about 8 months of collecting. I can't for the life of me remember which DVD it was though because I order all my DVDs online and there is a difference between the number it is when ordered and when it arrives. I've been buying frantically since March last year. Currently on 547 with 37 titles on order.
In my short experience, I've come to realise that the more you have, the more you end up neglecting a lot of your titles. I know that since I started buying DVDs, I have spent about 90% of my total viewing time watching them as they arrive and only about 10% watching ones I already own. Obviously I can't carry on like that or there is little point owning all these babies, so I want to try and limit my collection to around 750 when I get to that. I have already traded on about 50-60 titles that I either bought blind and didn't like or which I had got bored of after 2 or 3 watches.

congrats on 300!! I dont remember how long it took me to reach that total either. have over 1,000 titles and been collecting for just a few years. as far as counting....I count by titles only. I use dvd aficionado and they count everything perfectly. and someone said something about neglecting dvds when you have too many...huh? do people with rooms full of books...like 4,000 books...neglect those in the collection? no. I think of my dvd and book collection as a library. a form of reference and research. those films are essential to me and will never be ignored. so keep adding those discs!!! I hope to hit the 1,300 mark by mid-summer.
