I have to agree with 1980 since two of my top five (The Empire Strikes Back, The Shining) came out that year. Also love The Elephant Man, and really like Raging Bull, Airplane, Ordinary People, and Used Cars.

Too many to list from the '60s and '70s, but 1968 and 1976 were both amazing years.
From my current life: 1982, the year which bore The Thing. Also, 1985 was a great year for horror.
