Sorry if this has been covered, but I didn't see it anywhere...
Jackson in STUFF
From 11-4-02 Stuff - "Jackson puts King Kong on backburner."
"Kiwi film-maker Peter Jackson will not rule out a remake of King Kong, but is committed to two small films after The Lord Of The Rings is completed, he has told an American magazine.
Jackson spent six months developing designs and a script for King Kong with his partner Fran Walsh before backer Universal Pictures pulled out in 1997.
But in an interview in horror and fantasy magazine Fangoria, Jackson said Universal had changed its mind and was interested.
"If we were to do (King) Kong - and we haven't had anything more than an initial expression of interest from the studio - we'd be looking at something like 2006. At this point in time, it's sort of out there as a possibility because (the original is) still my favourite film, and to go back into it would be fun," he said.
Jackson said he and Walsh were committed to doing "one or maybe even two smaller films" before 2006. He was also considering squeezing in a low-budget zombie movie.
"It would be fun to shoot something over a long period of time. Whatever we might do after (The) Lord Of The Rings, I'm seriously thinking of filming on the weekends. We might be doing another movie, but on days off we would go out with a small crew and shoot some scenes and put it together over a long period of time."
British newspaper The Guardian reported last week that The Lord Of The Rings star Sir Ian McKellen was keen to star in a screen version of The Hobbit. Sir Ian said he understood Jackson has secured the rights to The Lord of The Rings prequel.
However, spokeswoman for Rings production company Three Foot Six, Melissa Booth, said today Jackson had not secured the rights to film The Hobbit."

If anyone in the film business deserves the success they are getting it is Peter Jackson. I would take One Peter Jackson for 100 Steven Spielbergs. I remember reading about King Kong after Frightners came out. I hope he does get to do it eventually. I also hope he gets to do the HObbit.

I could handle if he did make the prequel, The Hobbit. That's cool that McKellen admits that he would be interested, but I am sure the money wouldn't hurt either. If anybody made The Hobbit, I would want it to be him.

I hope that they will do the hobbit before Ian expires. He is pretty old isn't he? I mean I thought that Richard Harris would have done at least the third installation of harry potter. Who would they get to play as Bilbo? the guy that had two seconds of airtime? It would keep it consistant.
A King Kong remake would be cool. I'm sure Universal Studios will be kicking themselves for closing the King Kong Kongfrontation if it is very sucessful.

Say, anyone know if I can get him (Kong) off e-bay for a price?

Completely off-topic:
Found out recently that Ian McKellen is going to be up at my university this Wednesday for a showing of Richard III, and he'll be answering questions of any sort from students in attendance.
How cool is that?
Unfortunately, I have to work, and can't make it

yes a zombie flick-too cool I thought for some reason he had kind of sworn off the horror genre... I myself wouldn't mind More Forgotten Silver- the further uncovered works of Colin Mackenzie
