Book you would most like to see become a Movie?
I don't know if this should go under the Book forum, but I am posting it here anyway.
The book I would love... no, KILL to see turned into a film would be Orson Scott Card's, "Ender's Game." This is one of my favorite books, and I know it (if done right) would make an excellent film.

There have been a lot of talks about it, and apparently OSC wrote the screenplay. I guess they are looking for a director. He doesn't even want to show it to Spielburg or any of the other huge directors. I am wondering how they are going to get the budget needed to produce the effects needed for this movie without giving it to a big director backed by a large studio. Hopefully the don't screw this up :\ - Only time will tell.

Can't be done right. I'd give anything to believe otherwise, but I just can't, and I wouldn't want to see such an incredible work of art ruined by Hollywood. Perhaps there's another Peter Jackson lurking around that could handle this complicated material, but the chances are one in a billion. I'd rather have the books just live in my mind.

I can think of hundreds of novels far more difficult to adapt than Ender's Game. Let's face it, it's no Dune, it's no Illuminatis Trilogy.
On the other hand, I am about the only person I know that didn't like Ender's Game. The story was interesting, but my cat can write better than OSC.
I have always been rather fond of a fairly obscure novel called The River Why, by David James Duncan. Either that, or his more popular The Brothers K, could serve as the foundation of a pretty good film I think.

There's a sequel to the novel When Worlds Collide titled (no surprise here!) After Worlds Collide that deals with the problems of settling on the new planet, and the discovery that a previous civilization inhabited the planet. I'd love to see a class A film version!

Millenium by John Varley. Yeah, I know there's a canadian TV movie version, but I want it done right.

A man goes to work and his boss, coworkers, family members, everyone he knows or meets tries to kill him and he doesn't know why. Most of the action takes place inside a skyscraper he has to escape from. Very fast read, in fact, it reads like a movie.

Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield. A novel of the Battle of Thermopylae where approximately 300 Spartans and some of their Greek allies held off a massive Pesian invading force in 480 BCE long enough to allow the rest of Greece to prepare for ultimately defeating the invaders.
The novel is truly epic and great (on Amazon, 36 of 37 reviewers give it 5 stars and the other gives it 4).
Universal owns the rights and a screenplay has been written by David Self. George Clooney is slated to produce and may star and Bruce Willis wants to be in it. This does not seem to be great casting to me. The director is supposed to be Michael Mann, whom I do not hold in high esteem as many others do. Personally, I would hope for a different director.
This has been in development for a long time and it's apparently still not a sure thing that it will be made.

Whether you like the story or not, I think the story depends too much on Ender's mindset to be done justice. Hollywood would make it all about the Battle Room, and that's not the full story. You can't cast an established talent in the role of Wiggin, and to find the right unknown kid to pull that off would require nothing short of a casting miracle IMO.
Considering you didn't like Ender's Game, have you read Speaker for the Dead? It's a completely different type of story, and I think it's better.
